[At the rest stop]
"Hello and Yes Ms Yulya, I'd love to!
Nyaa sure thing Nya you're welcome Nya!
Cat hands Hanna half a ration too

Ashley pushes out of Alice's grip.
"This is the opposite of how you get candy in the future!"
Cat watches the scene and nods, satisfied that Ashley understood her lesson about treats and personal space.

In the morning Cat prepares half a ration for everyone

Alice wakes everyone and reports her encounter with the guards during breakfast.
Cat is not amused
Nyaa as if the refugees don't already have it hard enough Nya. I bet there were nobles involved Nya.

Cat goes to look after he mules
Good morning Nya, Sandra Nya and Sophia Nya! Todays the exciting part Nya as we go on Triboar Trail Nya!

Cat puts Sandra in front of the cart for the first half of the day. As they depart, Cat walks on the left side near Sandra. In the usual formation, Yulya is on the right, Ashley in front with Sophia and Alice behind the cart.
Nya be vigilant Nya and watch the surroundings Nya!

After they are gone, Alice checks on the mules again.

The girls are dead on their feet.

Good morning Nya, Sandra Nya and Sophia Nya! Todays the exciting part Nya as we go on Triboar Trail Nya!

The girls are awake, cooperative, and both happy to get going. They are very much enjoying this new founf freedom.

Now let us hurry! We must depart early if we want to reach Phandalin today. I would rather not camp out at Triboar trail!

[Saturday, Spring 22, 06:15, Partly Cloudy, 10C]

"Head 'em up and move 'em out!"

The rumble of wheels over gravel is slightly muted by the softer compacted and rutted dirt Triboar Trail. The road is dry and the traction is good. The trail of another carraige has left tracks that are no more than a day old.

[Survival Rolls]

The temperature immediately drops as you move along the road. It becomes earily quiet and the wind picks up, a side draft that has gales of 10-15 mph. There are no chirping birds or skittering squirrels, many of the plants show signs of frostbite and hard freeze has killed some of the trees along the treeline or sent them back to dormancy after they were just coming out of their slumber.

[Saturday, Spring 22, 12:00, Partly Cloudy, 7C 16 miles]

By about the half way mark, the road crunches dry dust and is cracked from lack of moisture odd for the otherwise subtropical coastal land. The weeds are all dead, there are a few heartier plants but it's clear the nights are below freezing. The mountains to the south come into view, all covered from peak to base with snow. The wind is coming from the Northwest, bitter and biting, yet at least the girls are happily trotting along, not a worry in the world.

[Saturday, Spring 22, 16:00, Partly Cloudy, 2C 27miles]

Past the turn off to Phandalin, you feel like this is the dead of winter and not well into spring. You continue and it just keeps cooling, by 10th hour, it's nearing freezing and it's taking a toll on the girls. They're still able to go a little further but not by much. The constant cold wind. Has sapped their spirits and their stamina.

[Mood -2]SANDRA REST[0/8] HP[25/25] AC10 MOOD[5] STAMINA[1]
[Mood -2]SOPHIA REST[0/8] HP[19/19] AC10 MOOD[3] STAMINA[1]

But Phandalin is just a few miles ahead, not more than 5, you'll make it if they can just go a little farther. By now the wind has shifted parrellel to the road.

[Saturday, Spring 22, 16:14, Partly Cloudy, 2C 27miles]

You see the Trees to the east, not more than 100 feet away, unnaturally covered in patches of snow. the north side of every rock, every dip, every bush, anything that doesn't get direct sunlight is holding on to fluffs of snow. And you're also becoming wary of this gale that seems to follow you and chill you as you walk. Suddenly you're confronted with Two large Grizzies with a total of 4 cubs, they all look emaciated, as they would just exiting their dens after winter, but these Bears are far enough South that they wouldn't have hibernated, so the lack of food in Early spring are threatening their existence. They're headed North along the trail directly for you and stop as they spot you, sticking their noses in the air. Given that they can easily smell both you and the girls, they're considering what to do next but the look in their eyes says awfully hungry and cranky. They're wary but aren't backing down.

Sandra skids to a stop, terrified by the bears ahead. Sophia hasn't seemed to notice them and keeps plotting along, tired but determined to pull.

Alice isn't happy
Damneeed!
Who does this? Who's behind this nonsense? I'm gonna cook and eat whoever's responsible for this cold, dragon or not!

Who the fuck can use magic that covers entire mountain ranges in snow?
That wind isn't natural either! I bet someone's watching us and laughing his ass of as we freeze our asses off!

What do we do? I'd hate to waste a firebomb on wild animals or attack them at all!

Yulya cannot believe to the size of the cold spell either
I...have no idea what creature might be responsible for such an area effect!

Yulya is both amazed and frightened by the group of bears
Do not threaten them!
Let us slowly retreat. If they follow us we must defend ourselves but I do not want to hurt them. They have it hard enough!
Cat do you think you could lure them off the path with moose meat?

"Crap, okay." Ashley summons Nixie 30ft ahead of the cart, and the cooresponding loud bang and smoke.

The bang reverberates through your lungs and the cubs scatter followed shortly by the mama bears. The smoke clears and the large black cat can't help but stare down the bears but by now the bears are already running off in all directions.

Though the the large bang startles the mules, the associated adrenaline rush renews their energy and whether instructed to or not, they're off down the road toward Nixie. Knowing Nixie is on their side has motivated them to join her. Ashley runs ahead with Nixie and you're past the bears in no time. you're very close to Phandalin, though you can't see it yet and it's still about an hour away.

[Saturday, Spring 22, 16:30, Partly Cloudy, 2C 27.7miles]

Sandra's pulling the cart hard, a real champ though she's tired, but Sophia's had enough, though she's fine when you lead her, she's done and will probably not like being driven this hard in the future without another good uneventful day under her belt and in a warmer climate. Expect her to not make it all the way to the high road unless her mood has improved significantly.

[Saturday, Spring 22, 17:30, Partly Cloudy, 0C]

You finally arrive to the small town of Phandalin.

You arrive at Barthen's Provisions and Hobbie's sitting on the porch, smoking a long pipe, wrapped in a blanket. He hears you clopping up long before he sees you and when he sees who's trotting up he smiles, throws his hands in the air and cheers, "Look who's here!"

Hobby hops up, places down his pipe and blanket, runs out and seems excited to see what you got for him.

"Hey, yeah we're back you have stables for our mules right?"

"Oh yes of course! I'll take great care of them."

Ashley's gears are turning, "Perfect, so we got your stuff and if I remember correctly, you owe us 650 silver for the big load."

His smile fades, "well I think you're slightly mis-remembering."

"Yeah? Oh right, we were going to deliver the whole lot to that other guy."

"No! No no no, it was me, and the price was 20% over, yes, I have it in my ledger. Then I owe you 600 silver."

Ashley rolls her eyes, "Yeah so we're not real readers, yet, but I'm getting my license soon so then I'll probably be trading here more often. Ya knooowwah, someone who can take care of our mules temporarily and does a great job, would probably earn our trust."

"You won't find a finer tender in all of Phandalin, well in fact, we have the only dedicated stable other than Eldermath's, but he's not in the business. I mean there are a couple farmers who tend their own animals, but in terms of the level of care good traders need to make sure their horses and mules are in tip top shape to be able to travel those long distances, I'm the best! And we have plenty of vacancy in the meadows, though it's been so cold lately, they'll likly prefer the barn," He speaks with a quickened cadence and a cheerful tone.

"Bah, how much per day for your boarding of two mules?"

He looks slightly nervous, "Well, begging your pardon, it's usually a standard rate of 5 silver a day each, but but that includes feed and care, I can adjust and clean their shoes if you leave them more than a day AND, I'll give your cart a once over, feel free to keep that in my garage as part of the bargain."

"Look, I know you don't have any other customers here, and feed is dirt cheep, we have some anyway, so what about a flat one time rate?"

[Persuasion 1d20+6=11]

He squirms a bit and then says, "you're wrong Ms. Ashley, I have a full paying customer just today, she was happy to pay whatever I asked in fact! Well though not everyone can afford everything the same and you're not asking for me to take on finicky draft horses, so how long are you staying?"

"At least a week I'd bet, we have a lot to do, but whatever it is, wait, who else is here?"

He looks up as if calculating, "If you give me 50, then I'll take it as full payment until you're ready to leave. Deal? Oh who? Well Elmina handled it so I didn't see who."

Ashley takes a sigh, "Yulya? He says 50 flipping silver for these stinky girls and we only made 100, what a jip!"

Yulya sighs with relief
Well done Ashley. How could I have forgotten Nixie!
Let us continue quickly!

You arrive at Barthen's Provisions and Hobbie's sitting on the porch, smoking a long pipe, wrapped in a blanket. He hears you clopping up long before he sees you and when he sees who's trotting up he smiles, throws his hands in the air and cheers, "Look who's here!"
Yulya raises her hand in greeting but exhausted and cold she lets Ashley do the dealmaking.

He squirms a bit and then says, "you're wrong Ms. Ashley, I have a full paying customer just today, she was happy to pay whatever I asked in fact! Well though not everyone can afford everything the same and you're not asking for me to take on finicky draft horses, so how long are you staying?"
Yulyas face briefly brightens. That means Summer has made it here safely.

Ashley takes a sigh, "Yulya? He says 50 flipping silver for these stinky girls and we only made 100, what a jip!"
Yulya puts on a bitter smile.
Alice was right, the mules life expenses surpass ours...

An exhausted and shivering Yulya turns to Hobby using Persuasion
Sir Hobnail I understand times are tough but we invested nearly all our funds to acquire the maximum amount of provisions for you and even purchased this cart to transport them. We are not here to take advantage of Phandalin on the contrary. We are trying our best to help this town and we are here to secure the Rockseekers mine and then deal with the source of this cold. But we cannot do so if we starve and freeze to death. I therefore at least ask you to reduce and postpone our payment for the mules until our departure to Neverwinter, regardless of the time it takes us. Consider it an investment! Help us so we can help you!

By the way would you or Miss Elmina know where we can find your dear customer? She is our friend and we are to meet with her as soon as possible!

Yulya whispers to Ashley
It is not a bad deal if he takes care of our cart as well until we return to Neverwinter. The whole thing might take significantly longer than 5 days and we pay for upon leaving when everything is resolved. Until then we are either rich - or dead.
And it looks like Summer is throwing around with money. Maybe we can get her to finance our lodging and food at Sir Toblens Inn. She is the quest giver after all and the service of heroes has its price... We need to find her!

Noyce, keeps me from wasting a stink bomb. I wanna keep it as collectible anyway.
Alice pockets the stink bomb and moves on
Come on, I wanna get somewhere warm where there's food!

Sandra's pulling the cart hard, a real champ though she's tired, but Sophia's had enough, though she's fine when you lead her, she's done and will probably not like being driven this hard in the future without another good uneventful day under her belt and in a warmer climate. Alice pats Sophia on the side before returning to her position behind the cart
Yeah I get you. I've had enough since we entered Triboar trail. Even with several layers this just sucks. At least you don't have to go into that goddamn mine. Cold, moist and dark. I dunno what's worse. Out here or down there. Oh yeah, it will suck while you'll be in a comfortable stable...

You finally arrive to the small town of Phandalin.

Alice is likewise enthusiastic to have reached their destination. Soon there will be warmth and food!

Alice plays the role of the freezing starving child quite well, even though there's not much play involved
Soo...cold
And hungry!

[Saturday, Spring 22, 17:30, Partly Cloudy, 0C]

Cat enthusiastically waves at him
Heya Nya we're back Nyaa! Brought lots of stuff for ya Nya! Anything going on lately Nya?

Hobby gives a bow and a warm smile, "We still have hope Ms Cat, and it's thanks to fine adventurers such as yourself that we do. Some of us would have already moved on if it wasn't for you."

Can we take a look at your stables and garage Nya? And you've been storing more stuff for us Nya. Can we load that on our cart Nya?

He points to the large building next to the stables, "It's all still in there, help yourself, bring your Mules there, you'll see where they go and they're free to have some hay while they're there. I'll be in there in a few."

An exhausted and shivering Yulya turns to Hobby using Persuasion

[Persuasion 1d20+4=17]

Hobby kicks at the ground then looks up at you, "I'm sorry to say it but it's been rough and the cold snap is the worst anyone's ever seen. This town is on the brink of failure! At this rate we'll have no food let alone extra coin to give discounts. We were promised a prosperous mine, fertile land, and freedom from bandits, we're worse off than we ever were." He has nothing left to give, "Pardon me Ms Yulya, but I gave you all a heck of a deal on Gundren's shipment, you might ask him for a bit of a cut of that when he turns up."

He hands Yulya a sack with 600sp silver, from that she pays him back 50sp. Ashley is very disappointed but not too disappointed to take her cut from the top. Ashley takes 25 silver as part of her delivery quest payment.

525 silver added to the group funds:
  5 cp
549 sp
 14 gp
 10 pp

[Congratulations on completing the delivery side quest! The party receives 800AP.]

Ashley and Cat unload Hobby's supplies and lead the girls to the barn with the cart in tow, soon to be under Hobby's care. Regardless of price it had to happen. Ashley gave them each half an alfalfa block and they seemed relieved that they were going back into an enclose space. The biting below zero wind was probably the main reason.

Their supplies are right where they left them and parked inside is an old cart Hobby had in the back, Gundren's cart is missing as well as his horses, presumably taken by Sildar and his brothers, and next to Hobby's old cart is indeed a royal carriage.

Ashley's eyes widen, "holy heck... oooh" Ashley touches it, she runs her hands over the fine wood, gold, frills... "Cat... forgive me Cat for I am about to sin." She looks around and seeing no witnesses she hops in the driver's seat and grabs the reins. She sits on the fine leather cushioned seat and bounces in place, "Oh Cat, can I have it pleassseeee??????!!!! Oh..." She slumps back and then lays across the driver's seat, "oh... this is nice, it even smells nice."

[Cat required response]

... meanwhile ...

By the way would you or Miss Elmina know where we can find your dear customer? She is our friend and we are to meet with her as soon as possible!

Hobby looks up from his supplies as he sorts through it, "I would hope Elmina is at the Stonehill Inn having dinner, she may know where your friend is."

[interactions Required, tell me where you're going now, it's still before 18:00, though not as regimented as Neverwinter, Harbin is likely still tending his shop. You recall Harbin owes you 24gp for his alchemist supplies, 4gp of which is the quest payment.]

Cat stares straight through the carriage as if it didn't exist, or as if even looking at it could taint her soul
Nyaaah don't ask me Nya ask Summer if she'll give it to you for free Nya...

Cat imagines Ashley on the carriage's driver seat in fine clothes and a whip in hand, lashing down on several chained Cat clones in rags pulling the carriage through the cheering crowds of a city. She shakes her head to dissipate the nightmarish vision.

Nya come one let's deliver the supplies to that fat noble Nya so we''ve got that out of the way Nya!
Cat takes Harbin's supplies from the cart and stores them in her pack

Alice looks at the sack of silver with disapproval.
Can't I have that in gold? I can't store any silver you know and the lolibank is nearly empty. I'd rather not have you run around with over 500sp...

Hobby looks up from his supplies as he sorts through it, "I would hope Elmina is at the Stonehill Inn having dinner, she may know where your friend is."
Alice's face lights up hearing Stonehill. Warm friendly atmosphere, great food, Expensive though.
Hey, I could go there while you deliver the supplies to Harbin. We don't wanna miss Summer or Elmina.  I promise I won't order anything without asking for the price first! They fooled me last time, but not again...

Yulya awkwardly takes the money after her request was turned down
Yes I understand. Thank you. My apologies for bothering you when times are tough for everyone...

Yulya is relieved by the distraction
Yes we can exchange a portion of that for gold. Perhaps 300 sp.

Yulya pats Alice on the head
Looks like you are really frozen. Alright I see no problem with this. Proceed to Stonehill Inn and see what you can do. We will meet up with you soon.

Nya come one let's deliver the supplies to that fat noble Nya so we''ve got that out of the way Nya!
Cat takes Harbin's supplies from the cart and stores them in her pack
Yes let us hurry!
I want a meal an a warm room as well! Let us pay a visit to Sir Wester. Who knows if he is at home but I do not want to be told we kept him waiting...

[In the Barn]

Cat pats and brushes the mules

Speaking softly to them, and petting them seemed to be the right thing to do, and it wasn't a bad thing, but the girls were quite fed up and cranky by now, only sleep and rest would help at this point.

Nyaaah don't ask me Nya ask Summer if she'll give it to you for free Nya...

Ashley straightens and sighs, "You know what I mean. This is my style, I like it. Maybe a little less fancy and a little more cool, 20% cooler would be perfect. Definitely want an overhang on top so even if it's raining I won't get wet."

[At the Storefront]

Alice and Yulya exchange 300 silver for 30 gold. Then Alice heads off to Stonehill Inn as Yulya and Hobby go to the barn to check in on Ashley, Cat and the mules.

[In the Barn]

Cat takes Harbin's supplies and Hobby steps in just as they're ready to leave, "Don't worry about your mules or cart, I'll take care of everything."

Ashley unloads the 5 full rations she's been carrying forever into the cart, her book and the alfalfa blocks into a crate containing the other stored items, pats Sandra and Sophia, then gives him a disappointed side eye as she leaves.

[Ashley has transferred 5 full rations, 4lbs each, into the cart, please make a note of it. She will remember she placed her book and the mule snacks into the crate with your other stuff later. She has also taken the task to collect ores and will manage those.

[Interactions With Hobby before leaving him with the girls.]

The three of them head off to Harbin Wester's home/shop/store and his door's open, they step in and find him sitting at his desk, writing in his ledger. He stands at your entrance. "Welcome, welcome, oh welcome! What a pleasant surprise! I trust your travels were fair, you certainly are a sight for sore eyes, and how is everyone this fine... cold day? Please tell me you have my supplies."

Ashley taps Cat's pack and the supplies are soon handed over. He looks through the box and couldn't be happier. "yes yes! Thank you so much for this, and your payment, worth every copper." He hands you 24 gold, Ashley takes her cut 1 gold.

Your funds:
5 copper
249 silver
67 gold
10 platinum

Congratulations on finishing your side quest! Everyone gets 200AP!

"And I hope you haven't forgotten about my samples," he says with some apprehension.

"Don't worry your little head about it, I'll take care of that personally. Just lend me a prospector's pick and I'll hand it back with everything I could find when we've cleared out the mine."

Harbin walks over to a crate on the side and picks out a small sharp implement like a mini-pickaxe, "Certainly Ms. Ashley, I'll await your return with baited breath."

Alice forges ahead through the dusty streets of Phandalin toward the Stonehill Inn, looking forward to warmth and relaxation after the long journey.

And what a welcome site it is to see. The beautiful architecture, the smell of smoked meat and fresh bread wafting past her, and the clank of ceramic mugs as she approaches the main doors, has left her every opportunity for feeling good despite the cold. She pushes through the door and with a little ring of a bell she enters.

Toblin's at the bar right where you left him with a fresh crate of cider sitting right next to him. He sees Alice enter and cheerfully announces her. "Ahh! Look what the cat dragged in! Where's your sisters little Alice?"

Alice looks around and finds Elmina sitting with a small figure with golden locks munching away on something that looks delicious. She glances over, then smiles and waves Alice over. It's Summer of course. Wearing a fine set of leisure clothes.

Alice and Yulya exchange 300 silver for 30 gold.
Alice takes the 30 gp and nods
Thanks, that's better!
30gp go into the lolibank, stored safely from pickpockets and other scum

Alice sighs in relief having made it into the hospitable warmth of Toblen's Inn and takes off the hood of her wofl cloak, breathing in the scent of various delicious food.
Haaa, nothing like a warm welcome in a warm place! Greetings, Mr. Stonehill!
We made it back with lots of supplies!

Alice eyes the cider
Haa, I'd love to have one of those, but my party will kill me if I waste more money...

Alice looks around and finds Elmina sitting with a small figure with golden locks munching away on something that looks delicious. She glances over, then smiles and waves Alice over. It's Summer of course. Wearing a fine set of leisure clothes.
Alice marches over to Summer with open arms
Ha, I KNEW I'd find you here! Good evening Miss Barthen! We delivered all your requested supplies!

Alice takes a seat and grins at Summer
Hehe, you caused quite a ruckus in Neverwinter!
We were worried you'd get eaten on the way you know? We can't afford another rescue mission! Did you make it all the way here on your own? Nice outfit by the way. How do you like my wofl cloak?

Alice stares at Summer's dinner while talking to her.
Maan, I'm hungry! That was a journey, we walked all day through that icy cold. The wind was the worst!
