Alice rambles on and Master Edermath simply smiles. Doing his best to get through this awkward conversation.
When Alice pulls out the head, he's visibly appalled.

Yulya frowns
In Eldaths name - Alice put your trophies away you are bothering Master Edermath!
Alice pouts and packs her trophy away, hoping that Summer will be more appreciative.

Once again Yulya is left with more questions than answers and realizes with dismay that neither the captured bandits nor Kingir, the girls or ow Daran yielded any useful answers.

He bristles,[/i] "I can't fathom her dealings here, though she is quite refined and that is refreshing in this part of Faerûn, I believe her when she mentioned she's some royal mage in training. Again I can't imagine why they waste such training on the young shemlen. Though..." he leans in and whispers, "I saw a certain ring she was wearing, it looked fey, and when I asked about it she simply said it was a ring she acquired and she called it the 'Ring of Summer'. I daresay that ring didn't have that name originally, if you ask me, it was a ring acquired from fey royalty. If I'm not wrong, such a ring is far above even royal means of acquisition," he straightens and looks around, "how that came to be on the hand of a shem, even a royal shem, is the biggest mystery of all. I can only imagine one of its abilities would be to extend life or youth, I can't then be sure how old this shemlen truly is."
Yulyas eyes widen.
Fey?
You believe she might not be a child at all? That would make sense in some way. Then again I cannot say she acts adult-ish...

Yulya remembers her Fey Touched abilities she cannot really explain either

Cat asks the time and Toblen yawns, "too early. It's 6:30, 7:30ish."

You reckon it's likely closer to 7:30.

The warmth is welcome but the otherwise empty tavern seems somewhat wasted.

A lonely cricket chirps as Toblen struggles to stay awake.

[Time to decide what to do next.]

Yulya raises from her chair.
The early bird gets the worm! Let us proceed to Sir Hobnail then to sell our loot and inquire about appropriate clothing! I hope he is already awake!

Yulya leads her party to Hobby and then if there is still time to Harbin should he be around.

Alice stumbles around, trying to put on all available layers of clothes.
Hey, wait up! I'm not that fast!

Not sure what to do, Alice goes to visit the mules and inspects the cart, depositing her loot.
Hmm, that sword and the rings from the guy we cooked! No, I think the nigger had it!

Alice picks up the rings of suffering and short sword of sharp tongue.
Can this be useful? We should have given the other ring to the Candygoddess! As punishment for crashing my ship and stealing Ashleys body...

Alice takes one of Ashley's Alfalfa bricks and tries to feed the mules.

Hey, do you even remember us? You were in this warm stable while we spent our days in this dark mine! Can't recommend it! Be happy you don't have to go up there, we hauled everything down ourselves.
Sorry but Ashley won't be coming back! She's on vacation - forever. Just abandoned you. Can you believe it? And I think she liked you the most! Maybe more than us...

I wonder if we'll take you to the dragon? Won't it be even colder up there? Caaat? What about the mules? Will we bring them up the mountain? I wonder if Summer can teleport us there like Mormesk!

Cat scratches her head and shrugs

Nyaa no idea Nya I don't even know where we are going Nya we gotta strategize with Summer Nya and Daran Nya! Daran's been there Nya he should know if we can bring Mules Nya! Didn't Summer say she'll hire porters Nya?

Sandra Nya and Sophia Nya! Have you been bored Nya? Sorry it's still so cold outside Nya not a good place to be Nya!

[Hidden Rolls]

They're out in the grass field such as it is, the frost is so thick on it that it looks like a layer of snow, and the frost has touched the mules as well but they don't seem to mind.

Sandra seems standoffish, though it looks like they both recognize you two, Sophia seems to be the only one happy to see you.

They flick their ears at Alice, and then Sophia nuzzles Cat and pokes her pack perhaps looking for a treat. They don't seem to mind that Ashley is missing in terms of how they're acting.

Once they're given the alfalfa, they're much more attentive and excited to see you, obviously looking for more treats. They look to be in good form and spirits otherwise.

Hobby meets you all outside with Elmina.

Elmina begins, after cordial greetings and welcoming you back, she's down to business: "stabling fees will apply from this moment forward. 1 gold a day for the mules, 2sp a day for cart parking and security."

Hobby adds apologetically, "You did get a slight discount thus far and we didn't charge for parking the cart until now but it is fair to say keeping it out of the weather and under my care will guarantee it's in top shape when you need it next. By the way, I did give it a good once over, greased the shafts and took care of a few minor issues free of charge!"

Elmina looks at him with a sour expression then huffs, "And where are the Gundren brothers? I thought you were off to fetch them or rescue them? And we're still stuck with this abominable everwinter, Edermath assured me you were to fix that as well!? We can't afford any more charity without results!" Her mood shifts suddenly and dramatically calmer and kinder, "If it wasn't for that wonderful miss..."she turns to Hobby "does Summer have a surname?"

"Not that I heard, she simply wanted to be called Summer," Hobby says sheepishly.

"Well if it weren't for miss Summer's bravery in getting supplies out of Triboar, we'd be looking at rationing and waiting to starve to death. The bandits haven't let up or the traders still don't trust the road, in any case we've not received any other shipments regardless of the communications we've sent pleading for more!"

Sandra and Sophia both approach her and attempt to nuzzle her to sooth her agitation, she's unable to resist their charms and smiles thinly as she pats them. Then she looks at Yulya with a piercing glance, "If it wasn't for the company you keep I wouldn't know what to think of you at this point!"

Hobby gives you a an indication using body language that says, 'stay calm and cordial.'

[Interactions required, please specify what you want to sell, what you want to buy and I'll see what they can do.]

Nyahaha always after treats - just like Alice Nya! Have you been good girls Nya? I hope you didn't bother Hobby Nya!

Cat mostly ignores the conversation outside of greetings - but the accusations hurled at Yulya don't sit well with her

Nyaa that's not right Nya we fought hard to conquer that mine for Phandalin Nya! And to get rid of that bandits disturbing your trade Nya! And we rescued the girls Nya! Here's our loot we'd like to sell Nya but if you don't want it, I'm sure Harbin will Nya!

Shortsword   3   120

Hobby meets you all outside with Elmina.
Elmina begins, after cordial greetings and welcoming you back, she's down to business: "stabling fees will apply from this moment forward. 1 gold a day for the mules, 2sp a day for cart parking and security."
Yulya bows
Certainly Miss Elmina. This is only fair. I apologize for using your business as our personal warehouse

Yulya bows to Hobby as well.
This is much appreciated Sir Hobnail - you have my thanks! Ashley would especially have appreciated this favor!

Yulya is caught off-guard by this hostility and gets smaller with each of Emilias words. But with Cats grip there's nowhere to run...
M-miss Summer of Leilon is her full name!
Yulya adds - with a perplexed expression as she had assumed Elmina and Summer were acquainted as fellow nobles.

Indeed our original plan was to aid Sir Gundrens brothers Tharden and Nundro in freeing their brother but they declined - and sent us to the mine instead. To be frank I would rather have aided them to get their brother back. I pray to Eldath that they are alright but we have heard nothing of them so far.

As for the cold - preparations are on the way with Miss Summer - but as the source of this weather appears to be an Ancient Dragon...
Yulya shivers just from uttering the name
... I hope you understand this issue is not resolved while passing by. To say the least!

Yulya sighs.
I understand your frustration and though we have wiped out the goblin den and the bandit stronghold in the mine - I am afraid this bandit organization is widespread and well organized. I cannot say what their plan is but it appears they are attempting to isolate Phandalin. They may be weakened now but in turn become even more aggressive. We are now working with Master Edermath and Miss Summer to battle the dragon causing the cold. Dealing with the remaining bandits will have to wait so stay vigilant!

Yulya closes her eyes thinking of her cabin and thinks
I am being lectured by a noblewoman. At least it is not an undead this time...
Calm and cordial - calm and cordial...

It only works partially - at least for Yulyas standards.

Milady Barthen!
We are doing our best to aid the town of Phandalin. Did we not bring you a cart full of supplies from Neverwinter even though that was not even our quest? Yet we are lacking something crucial - and that is not even proper payment for the quests bestowed upon us - it is information. May I remind you that we were lured here under false pretenses to begin with? Sir Gundren hired us for a simple escort mission for his cart - mentioning nothing of the valuable map of the mine he was carrying. Or a well-organized bandit army involving nobles, goblins, bugbears and a high-ranking drow sorcerer. Or an ancient dragon freezing over the land. And were sent to his mine  - I am certain - in order to perish there. The bandits awaited us in a fortification. It was a trap. Only by the intervention of the Gods did we manage to achieve victory - at the cost of the life of our team-member Ashley. May she rest in peace!

Yulya makes a dramatic pause and looks at the ground
Again nobody told us anything. Not of the monsters in the mine, not of the Forge of Spells or the Spectator guarding it. Very odd things are going on here that go way beyond a few marauders robbing traders. We still do not know what the bandits were doing in the mine. Or what the plan of their leader - the drow Nezzer was. But he had kidnapped 2 young girls from Phandalin for some kind of magic ritual.
Yulya gesticulates to Alice to not show off his head.

Milady Barthen! You are a keen tradeswoman as well as nobility! You are well-informed I am certain. We cannot help you if you do not help us. Someone is playing a dirty game with us here. So please- what do you know about the bandit organization called the 'Cloaked Wolves' and their leader Nezzer the Black spider? And what is your impression of Sir Gundrens brothers and their friend Sir Sildar Hallwinter? Or any other odd behavior of residents of Phandalin. Any small detail could matter. I am not accusing anyone but I strongly suspect the bandits have someone aiding them here.Someone who is working against us - and thereby ultimately against you!
In any case first and foremost we are here to trade our loot from the mine as Cat has said. Of course we offer it to you first.
Yulya points at the loot Cat has laid out  - then nervously nestles with her hands

A-apart from that there is something else we need and I want to discuss this with Lady Elmina in private!
Yulya of course refers to the clothes including underwear she needs for herself and Cat.

Alice looks a the mules with amazement
How can you even survive out there? I'd die in under an hour in this cold...

Alice is a bit disappointed being ignored like that, but notices that the alfalfa bricks does wonders
Hey, hey I have another one for you if you lemme touch your ears!?

Cat pats the mules noses
Nyahaha always after treats - just like Alice Nya!
Hey now!
Eating delicious food is important! You of all people should know. And I care very much that Ashley is gone! In contrast to certain mules.

Alice sniffs the alfalfa brick before waving it in front of the mules
I wonder what this tastes like. Should I eat it myself or does someone else wants to have it?

Hobby meets you all outside with Elmina.

For whatever reason, maybe it is Elmina's elaborate hairstyle and accessories, her beautiful doll-like face or her small statue as gnome, maybe all of the above - or none, in Alice's undecipherable raking system, she scores very high and is let off the hook with shenanigans that would get ordinary people into serious trouble. With a grin Alice waves off her sharp word as tsundere behavior.

Haa yeah, those bandits are a pain. Don't think they're simply after your goods though. Yulya-sama said it. They wanna starve you out, maybe even get you to abandon Phandalin. Such guerilla attacks are very difficult to deal with...

Alice considers several options (involving severe crimes against humanity), looks at Yulya and dismissed them with a sigh.
Guess even dealing with that dragon will be easier. And I hate dragons. Especially those who cause cold...

Wit regards to Gundren's brothers - the dwarves at the inn and Mr. Toblen said they laid siege to the castle of the goblin king to bring Gundren back. Allegedly they're 'good news' but yeah...
Alice rolls her eyes
I wonder if we'll ever see them again. They're not the most competent fighters. But as you heard - they didn't want our help. The whole thing is pretty much insane, just like what we witnessed in the mine. The dwarves are planning to go back now to resume mining, but it's not exactly safe. At least without Gundren's map. Hate to say it but they created more problems than they solved since we met them. If you wanna complain, take it to them, not to us. We're just cleaning up after them.

Alice thinks about items to buy but doesn't come up with any.

Elmina tries to process Yulya's sermon, evaluating whether she's being taken for a fool.
"Summer of Leilon? Are you implying she is of royal blood? Ancient Dragon? Forge of Spells? Cloaked Wolves?"
Elmina approaches Yulya and sharply glares up into her eyes, then at Hobby, and back to the shaking Yulya. After an endless moment of awkward silence, Elmina closes her eyes, takes a step back and shakes her head. Her expression turns from angry to sorrowful.
"No, you would not joke about such matters, Miss Peace Cleric. I know this much of people. Unbelievable! With this, what shall we do now? Aren't things already bad enough?
she mutters to herself and remains standing deep in thought with her eyes closed. For a moment Yulya wonders in Elmina has just read her mind, but she cannot sense any traces of magic and it is probably just her imagination. But timidly looking down at her, Yulya spots small horns protruding from Elmina's beautiful hair. Something she has never seen in a gnome. At least for now Yulya is left without answers.

In any case first and foremost we are here to trade our loot from the mine as Cat has said. Of course we offer it to you first.
Yulya points at the loot Cat has laid out  - then nervously nestles with her hands
Here's our loot we'd like to sell Nya but if you don't want it, I'm sure Harbin will Nya!
Elmina's eyes suddenly pop open in anticipation, but inspecting the loot, her mood drops.
"This is bandit equipment, am I correct? We are not an armory and we cannot afford such trouble. Please take all weapons and armor to Linene Greywind at Lionshield Coster! She has previously been robbed by, as I assume, the very same bandits. I am sure she will appreciate your goods."
Elmina inspects the clothes, but backs off in disgust realizing they were looted from corpses.
"You might want to clean those and sell them to Linene as well. As for the re-"
Elmina spots the olive soap box and picks it up like a treasure chest, sniffing the scent of pure luxury
Ohh where did you find this treasure? I will certainly buy this! It's been ages since we had decent cosmetics in this outback here! I will pay you the double price!
She seems genuinely happy and keeps hugging the wooden box, signalling to Hubby to deal with the remaining offer.
[Elmina is willing demands to buy the olive soap for 40 sp]

A-apart from that there is something else we need and I want to discuss this with Lady Elmina in private!
Yulya of course refers to the clothes including underwear she needs for herself and Cat.
Elmina uncomfortably looks up to Yulya again as if she had proposed something indecent, then sighs and waves at her.
"Fine! Please come in but keep it short!"
Elmina drags Yulya into her house and closes the door, leaving the others outside with Hobby.

With Elmina and Yulya gone, another awkward eternity passes while Alice, Cat and Hobby are standing outside with the rejected loot. Hobby suddenly appears to regain his composure and speaks with an apologetic tone.
"Sorry about that, I told you the first time you came that this stuff is better left with Linene! The amethyst - you'd better sell it at Neverwinter or Leilon. You'd get a much higher price than here."
He sifts through the rest.
"I'll take these things off you with pleasure though"
WildDogPelt   4   24
WildDogPeltPatched   1   2.5
Waterskin   5   8
Flint   1 10

Nya if you have it Nya I'd like:
Smith's Tools
Carpenter's Tools
Spices for cooking, nothing fancy Nya!
Hobby nestles with his beard and leads Alice and Cat into the store which is a separate building from Elmina's house
"I'll see what I can do! Come with me!"
While walking he speaks with a hushed voice
"Is this really true, my friends? An Ancient Dragon? I've heard stories from Edermath but thought this was just his humor. You really want to tackle such a beast? And my condolences for losing your team-mate. She was one hell of a negotiator. She surely would have become a great trader!"
He stops mid-way and thinks.
"About the bandits - yes, we have heard about such groups but it's all gossip and hearsay. I feel bad for not informing you better, but there's not a lot I know. The attacks have been frequent but I did not know it was one organization! With a drow leader? I can only think they are after the mine. Why else target a simple village like Phandalin?"
He appears uncomfortable with discussing Gundren's brothers and Sildar.
"I-I don't want to blame anyone but you know dwarves! I cannot imagine they had any malicious plans. I've known them for an eternity! Without their ambitions to re-open the mine, this town would have no future! But uhh, Gundren and his brothers are a bit - carefree. Even for dwarves. Let's call it that. Got them into a lot of trouble since they were young. Always ended up in peril. Zero preparations and at best some makeshift plan made up along the way. I hope they're alright! As for Sildar, never had a lot to do with him. He occasionally worked for Gundren and the other dwarves. Can't say I'm fond of him but he's never done anything bad either. But I'm just a little shopkeeper..."

Hobby appears glad to be able to shift the topic after arriving at the store
"You are lucky, thanks to Miss Summer we just got at least a small variety of spices from Triboar. Not that I could offer anything fancy even if I wanted."
He laughs bitterly and presents a small spice set for 5 sp (enough for 10 meals) and a medium spice set for 10 sp (20 meals)
Hobby rummages around in the back of the store and returns with a set of carpenter's tools.
"I normally sell those for 100 sp here and they're in high demand due to the construction and mining going on, but after all you've done and experienced, you can have them for the usual price of 80 sp. Just don't tell Elmina! My apologies, but I don't have smith's tools. You should try your luck at Linene's as well!"

Yulya finds herself in a lavishly decorated mansion, not overly large but stuffed with antiquities, paintings and expensive furniture, more than adequate for rural nobility. Despite the cold, the house is comfortably warm and decorated with a variety of flower arrangements. Elmina gracefully sits down on a luxurious futon and gestures to Yulya to sit next to her.
Oh my, I guess I do owe you an apology. It really has been tough lately. But I had no idea it was that tough! I knew something powerful was causing this cold but an ancient dragon?! So Miss Peace Cleric Dragon hunter! What can I do for you? I hope it's not more bad news?
