Did you want to go down the stairs near the vault or the elevator?

Wait what?
I thought the stairs were the vault?
Where is the room and treasure Ashley talked about? I thought it was where the ladders led into the darkness?
Quote
On the furthest southwestern wall next to the drift, there is a very old metallic structure, made of that same dwarven metal, built to survive anything—well, almost anything. There are remnants of what was once a very sturdy metal seal here; it looks like it was recently opened, and by the looks of it, with literal barrels of explosives, enough to make even Alice blush. The metal hinges are partially melted from the blast. A deep black tunnel remains, too black to be natural. To the southeast of that is a wooden platform with stairs leading down. The stone that once separated the drift from the other side has recently fallen away, revealing a fresh rock surface, likely from the blast.

Ashley refreshes her Truesight and she describes what she sees in the magical darkness.

"Dust, ash, walls blackened by fire, and heaps of debris beneath a sagging ceiling—yeah, this room was damaged by a destructive blast. I can see remains of furnishings—tables, chairs, bookshelves, and beds—are charred; this was some kind of living quarters. Wait a minute..." Just on the edge of darkness, a scorched iron chest stands proud and blasted open. Glowstone light piercing the darkness shows glints of gold and the tell-tale hue of Mythril--a lot of it. A rope, ladder, or other means could be used to reach the chest.

Oh wait. So the whole vault structure isn't on the map?

Yes, so there is a vault there and there is stairs there, they're not one and the same but related. You can traverse the stairs down past the vault which is on this level and not well represented on this map.

This is describing two different things.

You are correct, the whole vault structure is in magical darkness and would extend East and Southeast off the map in a similar way that the rifts, drafts and tunnels of the cave are not on the map, like the place Alice went when she swam through the tunnel under the water.

Consider that now, whether you want to travel down to the next level with the elevator or see where the steps go but after you deal with the new issue.

Wow I somehow misunderstood that one too!
I was already wondering where the stairs were supposed to be. Let's go there!
Oh wait, we have a visitor!

I'm going to let you know, these stairs just go to the next level down and can be used instead of the elevator if the elevator was disabled or left here for some other reason. That hasn't happened *yet*.

Yes, that was to be expected. Cat doesn't like that place but if the reason for the beamholes is already in front of us we might as well take the stairs. Let's hope that lich wizard likes cute Alice and her frog.

Same here!
Just want to say Yulya is pretty good at this. Nice summary, wouldn't have made the connection with the watcher.

Hmm I was hoping for a little more cooperation, we only lot the staff from this encounter and gained nothing.

Oh, so ther IS additional fine print with my ring...

Quote
“But the plans were on display…”
“On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.”
“That’s the display department.”
“With a flashlight.”
“Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.”
“So had the stairs.”
“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”
― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

So when can I get rid of this 'present' when there is no sunlight in the mine?

Looks like Yulya has had it.
Still don't see how she defied him. I think that's the maximum of courtesy a cleric can show to an undead including the promise to free his soul. At least I think, but I know nothing about undead or clerics. We were just off to bring him Nezzners head as he requested. Sans ears of course, as they are mine and mine alone. This is more important than the fate of this world. And if I get back the frog too we'll of course help Mr. Mormesk because he's a pretty cool guy and doesn't afraid of everything! So it's all good! He can go back to doing undead things whatever that is.

Undetiquette: don't tell the undead you'll release their soul, that's a threat.
