History of this forum?
« on: March 22, 2014, 07:37:42 AM »
You may or may not know me from the .info site, or from the IRC server.  If you don't then hello.  If you do, then its good to see you again.

I have been lurking around the previously mentioned forums for a while.  I stumbled on this forum while I was doing some random shit on google.

So that leads me to my question:  What is the purpose of this forum?  Yes I know its about tuppers, but what I mean more specifically is this:  The tupper community is a pretty small one.  What is the point of creating this site when .info already exists?

And like the title of the thread, that leads me to the second question:  What is the history of this forum, if any?  What was the founders' reasoning for creating this forum?

Moderation problems. The past on the other site has been one bumpy ride. A lot of not caring and strict punishments for those who dare to oppose those in power. Hugboxing that defeats the purpose of a community like this. No transparency and a lot of secrets on the moderation side, working against certain users because they're disliked. Ban-happy folks that dislike opinions if they hurt someone's precious little feelings, even if they are valid concerns. No respect for the users.

It's gotten a lot better these days because now .info actually has some mods who actually care about the state the website is in. And it's funny how that started happening after this website was created. They do know of us and might see us as a threat, so if that actually motivates them to work harder then I'm glad. There's still a long way to go and as far as things are handled the way they are over there, I doubt the moderation situation will ever get truly good. We can hope, but...

That's what we are trying to fix. We're not the only ones with complaints, but we don't do a lot of advertising. I guess if things go really bad over on the other tupper site, we can lend the users a hand and show that there's another place to go to if they so choose. A new beginning with people many seem to trust in power. We can always become just as bad as .info, but we're going to at least try. This far everything is open so I'd say that's a good start, and we do actually listen to our users and work out the problems with them. Couple of mods do that on .info now and that's great, but it wasn't that way when we started out.

Not sure if that answers a lot and you seem to be a bit of a newer guy seeing that I don't know who you are, so it's possible you haven't seen it yet. Or that you have had the pleasure to work with the mods who actually care. I hope that continues for you, we've had to fight way too much in the past and we're pretty tired of it, heh.

Yes that actually makes a lot of sense.  I am pretty new to having a tupper, I have been doing it since late January.  I haven't really seen those problems on .info but maybe its just the innocence of youth.  There is the occasional circlejerking and stuff but thats to be expected anywhere, not just on .info.  As you said, maybe all the people that "didn't care" are gone now, or are intimidated by this rival site.

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention that I like what you all did with the place.

Well, they're all not gone unfortunately, but .info has their most unstable mods quit pretty often. So there's that.

Glad to hear that you like the site, remember that if you have suggestions, we'd always like to hear it.

I'm more worried about the community on tulpa.info, now that the mods are getting a little competent.

One day, there was a shitty forum, then it became shittier, then we left, now we're here, on our smaller and marginally less shitty forum. Where everyone rolls in shit all day but is at least happier for it.

Well at least the shit smells like Doritos and seriousness.
