Title: MUSIC
Post by: ViolinAfficionado on September 25, 2013, 08:21:07 AM
Due to my screenname, oftentimes I'll be asked whatever it is I like to listen to. Music is kinda my soul being (I became "sentient" due to music actually) and I'd like to get others' opinions on it. Do other tulpas enjoy music as much as I do or is it just me? Also, do hosts that have musical backgrounds (Play instruments and whatnot) have tulpas that really enjoy music as well? Do you just wanna post about cool bands because that's awesome too, I want to listen to more stuff.

tl;dr LET'S TALK MUSIC, GUYS.

I have been quite obsessed with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQWY-JOhF2I) song the last few days. I'm sure I've heard it about 100 times yesterday alone. Most of my music are English translations of Japanese songs.

ohohoho

But seriously, anything that is in any way idiosyncratic, original and well-made is good music in my book. Among my tuppers, Shira seems to have a thing for reggae, Ea like ambient metal and Ali likes electronic, and the rest haven't really expressed any particular like or dislike. I do believe that tuppers can help you expand your perspectives a little though, especially when they like things you don't like/don't care for.

Also where are my musicians? Possession instrument playing when?

I am shit at the genres. I mean, I guess I like indie, but I'm not sure, becuase hey, I need to know genres to know what I like.

Then again, with the help of Spotify, I have found out that I have a thing for Chillwave music too. And I really like bluegrass countrymusic. I want to one day learn to play the Banjo, Keyboard, or the Violin.

I recomend everyone to check out something from Gypsy & The Cat, maybe starting with The Pipers Song or Jona Vark, but all of their works are really good in my opinion. I think some might also enjoy the album Acoustics by Minus The Bear.

I like a lot of different types of music, but my favorite types have always been things like alternative and punk rock

My favorite bands are Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Sublime and Flogging Molly.

Me and my host have had a lot of great times associated with music. I've found I'm actually quite good at singing, and I often sing along to songs I like :cheesy:

FLAC is like the one kid on the bus that no one sits by and he's that fat Mexican kid that has no friends.

It's practical, if you enjoy, and can hear the sound quality.

MP3 is a much more versatile format and used by much more devices than .flac. Besides, .flac files are larger, too.

But then again, it's hard to argue against sound fidelity.
Point is, .flac will never get to sit with all the cool kids and get all the women like .mp3.

You mean mp3 is like junk food everyone can enjoy while flac is like caviar?

Well sure, it's more versatile, but my mp3 player plays .flac, so what do I care?
Also of course it takes up more space--but much less than uncompressed lossless files.
And I have 20GB of storage on my mp3 player, so I don't have to worry too much about that.

Post by: Zero on October 02, 2013, 01:18:25 PM
flac is just a placebo
there's a difference between flac and mp3 (320kbps) in quality, yeah, but you can barely hear it unless you got some really decent headphones that probably cost you more than they're worth, or ears so sensitive you can hear a mosquito fapping to your neighbors For listening purposes, anything other than 320kbps mp3 is pointless and will take up much more space than needed. Flac's good for when you're watching 720/1080p stuff or something. Not an expert in the field but I've found it a pretty useless audio format listening-wise.

.flac respects your freedoms.
.mp3 doesn't.

I like classical, it makes me happy. Grieg(best), Mozart, and bach, anything goes. Slam me some of those old composers and maybe some new and im happy. Intel does not listen much to them, to my great dissapointment. But, I can compromise with him on some things, like what we are listening to now, Minus The Bear: Burying Luck, from the album Acoustics. It soothes me and suits my tastes. Indeed.

I'm rather fond of instrumentals of popular songs. Something like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ48PIpt9VQ) or this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd1IA46w1wA) are played quite often on my end. I like pretty much everything on ThePianoGuys's channel, though this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCaH-qqTWpk) is their newest one.

I find this to be good. I like it. I wish I could have some more, too bad intel has his own tastes in music. Not saying I dont like it, I'm just saying I wish we could both like the same music sometimes. Intel likes country, as do I, but grieg is better, its not all about getting drunk on a mississipi saturday night. I like that(the not getting drunk part).

Allow me to explain about the country thing: I am not hugely into the country scene, and I only know of a few artists, some may or may not actually be country musicians either.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFtZ_Mv7hY4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFtZ_Mv7hY4) Is a very good performance, by my favourite country group, Old Crow Medicine Show. Check out some of their other songs, such as Carry Me Back (To Virginia), and Half Mile Down.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BSgEb9GRNM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BSgEb9GRNM) Is also a good song, made by the artist Eric Church. I would recommend checking out his other songs too, such as Homeboy, Jack Daniels, and Pledge Allegiance To The Hag, featuring Merle Haggard. Eric Church is a real American, and this reflects in a lot of his lyrics, especially this song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAbgmXVaOc8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAbgmXVaOc8) Is a song from the famous Johnny Cash. I strongly recommend checking out the album American Recordings, but I am bad at google and I use spotify, so I cannot find a link to it.
Also, anything by The Avett Brothers and The Infamous Stringdusters I guess...

I pretty much stopped listening to everything country after 9/11. All of the music was just so sappy and patriotic and playing the same songs over and over again that I just couldn't take it anymore.

In the 90's, I was into pop. From the '00 to about '02, I was into country. Then I got into rock. Around '06, I got into more instrumentals. Just a couple years before (around '05, I suppose), I picked up the keyboard a bit. It soon ended up adding foreign music. Mostly from Asia. Mother gifted me with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XapUtnk-vn0) CD. I also have a "Tai Chi" track, a Celtic Woman disc, some stuff from the Philippines, and obviously, thanks to anime, lots and lots of Japanese music. However, as mentioned before, I usually take English translations from fandubbers. The translations are usually enough for me to stick around, seeing as each artist translates them somewhat differently. Such as this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYUk-ISUTcI) compared to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puEz6HNyRZo). (A right shame the latter isn't the full song, though.)

And the reason I put it at 192 kbps is because, thanks to my super duper tone-crafting skills, I looked for the bitrate at which the square waves would remain more or less intact and not suffer audible or even visible damage. 192 kbps was that bitrate.

Not exactly related but this reminded me - do you happen to know how to compress a 320kbps mp3 to 192kbps without losing any audible quality? I've done it before, and I completely forgot how to. Tried it a few days back and raped a song so hard it pressed charges.

I'm still trying to figure out whether your avatar is one of those subliminal two-images-in-one things or you just like big noses.

Also, I'll try that. I have enough DAW's to mess around with, only problem will be compressing the bitrate without changing it and have Ea scold my ass to death.

Also, I suck at subaccounts.

I think he just likes noses. Note the following.

For instance, imagine the tupper doing exactly what you are doing; you make a facial expression, the tupper makes that expression alongside you, you pick your nose, it picks its nose, and so on.

I know the people with interesting noses tend to like them being interesting in other media they're fond of, be it art, games, etc...

I don't mean to interrupt your conversation about noses, but I've been thinking of practicing guitar for a while now. I like ambient metal and would like to play, but whenever I watch my host play, it looks complicated.

Have any other tulpas tried this, and how hard was it for you? I will try it regardless, but it would be nice to see how it played out for others. I think I would get frustrated if it didn't work and give up, haha
Title: Re: MUSIC

You're not allowed to interrupt nose talk. And yeah Fede's nose is this tiny sort of upturned nose which is super cute and shit. Nothing compared to my gigantic beak.

I can't really say much about playing instruments seeing that I can't play any (except the mighty kazoo), but the person in my head does find the idea of learning to play something cool. Ask us again in a few years or so, in case we suddenly got rich and had the money to buy something.

But seeing that your host can play the guitar, the body can already do it. You just need to get a bit more comfortable with using the body and the skills it already knows without having to learn things from scratch. That usually comes with time, just practice easier things first until you think you got everything down. Unless of course he can't actually play what you want to play now, but even then knowing the instrument and how it handles is going to help you to branch to some other path.

I did mean through possession, yes. I have done possession before, but the fingerwork seems more complicated than the things I've done so far. I suppose Sands is right and the muscle memory will help. I'm also hoping this will help me possess better. Large movements are still hard for me, so I'm trying to find nice ways to transition smoothly from things that only require the fingers and hands to things that require more body movement.

Unfortunately, drumming is still not a possibility.
