I'm pretty sure just about EVERYONE loves video games now, and I was surprised nobody has started a gaming thread before.
So yes, this thread will be a place to discuss the video games we love and hate.
I've always been fond of puzzle games, turn-based RPGS, strategy games and stuff like that.
My favorite game is Minecraft. Me and my host have built a extremely elaborate nation in our world that we call the Royal Mintopian Alliance
I've had a lot of fun watching my host attempt flying planes in Gran Theft Auto 5. It looks like a really fun game, although if I were able to play it, I'd probably just mess around with vehicles the entire time.
-
I've been addicted to Osu for the past few months. I love rhythm games in general, especially when they're competitive and require actual skill to play, and honestly this outdoes Guitar Hero in many ways, even though it's so simplistic in nature.
Besides rhythm games I'll mostly play either stealth, fps, beat-em-ups and the occasional danmaku, though those can't keep my attention span for long. I also prefer games I can involve my tulpas in like chess or other strategy-type stuff. It actually surprises me that not many people play games with their tuppers.
-
My favorite would have to be Chrono Trigger, which was originally for the Super Nintendo, but can be found on Nintendo DS and the Playstation, as well as a dozen other places. The story, music, gameplay and even the art (for a game from 1995 on the SNES, anyway) was really quite something. Unlike it's sequel of Chrono Cross, I feel Trigger has better character development. Cross simply has too many people and it ends up focusing on a minor amount of them. Plenty of history, dialogue, etc... I like to look at my RPG's as an interactive book, with music. I miss my silent protagonist RPGs.
Lately, though, I'm hopping back and forth between an MMO and Morrowind. I like Morrowind, it's my favorite TES title, but some of the gameplay really is kinda weird. Looking forward to Skywind.
As for making the thread, I like games, but not necessarily to the point where I go on about them.
-
Battlefield 4 closed beta starts today!
And of course my only internet option at the moment is an unstable wifi with 2 seconds lag and 70kb/s <.<
So I'm playing Fallout 3 and I love this game, although it could use a bit better graphics.
-
Seconding Morrowind. Man do I love that game. Sure it's a bit clunky and ugly, but some of that can be modded away. But it really is the world I fell in love with, something the later games haven't quite replicated yet. The people, the culture, all of that. It felt like a really hostile world that hated me, something alien and not your average generic European medieval fantasy world. I'll never forget my first trip from Seyda Neen to Balmora. It was dark and raining. All those weird sounds around you... Man, it just sent chills down my spine.
-
Resident Evil was also really really good, especially RE4, as well as Manhunt 2. Something about the grimey realism in Manhunt just makes it hard to forget, and looking through the eyes of a "bad person" has always been an intriguing thing to me. Too bad I haven't seen too many new and interesting games come out.
-
Of games I played recently I remember Metro: Last Light comes to mind as being pretty awesome.
I usually get pretty absorbed into videogames, so I had shivers down the spine all the time. I played it all through in one day with only breaks for toilet and eating.
Ranger hardcore mode is a bit broken since there is no way to check your ammo and you are told none of the commands (not even for quick action scenes).
A bit short (like most non-rpg shooters today) but with headphones and a dark room it's scary.
-
Oh, I do like Minecraft as well, haha. It is very fun to build things in it. But when it comes to exploration and action, I like Terraria more.

Yes, yes. You know of which I speak. The gameplay really was rather lacking, the conversations were repetitive and many of the characters lacked a certain... personality. I think a part of that problem was simply the large numbers of NPC's to begin with. Skyrim in particular seems rather... empty in comparison. They can't really help it, though. The company was dying, so they needed to put out a lot of stuff with a lot of options very quickly. The game did save them.
That is something you don't really get in the newer ones either. It was way more alien. Undead are always undead. But comparing bears, deer, rabbits, various large felines to cliff racers, kagouti, guar, etc..., and it's definitely going to have you paying attention at first. I remember my first trip through a... Believe it was a Dunmer Stronghold. Undead and the Corpus beasts everywhere. Ominous music, and dark hallways with occasional torches and red lights.
And, as you said, it was a harsh, unforgiving area that wanted you dead. If it's not mages lacking hindsight falling from the sky, it's the guards, and the many non-outlanders who curse you as you walk by, only refraining from cutting out your throat because then it's either jail, or death for them as well. There were issues affecting everyone. Issues with taxes, the slave trade, rotten nobles, etc... A lot of this, however, was butchered by the dialogue system either way.
Hopefully, the work from Skywind and possibly OpenMW will help alleviate some of this.

Crassius Curio. All is forgiven. House Hlaalu forever.

I said many. Should have been most. xP We had Fargoth that got picked on a lot and hated the guards for it. Ahnassi which was a monk that stole things but couldn't bring herself to hurt anyone. Crassius... Was Crassius.
Speaking of Hlaalu, some of their quests were fun. There's an earlier one where you're told to kill a competor's Kwama Queen, and if you go to him and talk about it, he'll bribe you to ignore the quest. But if you do it anyway, you pretty much got double favor for doing it anyway. Then you were praised for "understanding how House Hlaalu does business."[/quote] Or the first one where you're asked to put on a helmet and impersonate someone else.
It's a shame that Redoran ended up being the main house to come out on top. I wonder if that was Vivec's doing, as he preferred that House.

Dunno about you, but I like my burgers and rice cooked to perfection.

So I'm playing Morrowind again. Heavily modded for some caster fun. Mostly just a Magicka regen. I plan on running around and just burning things. It'll be fun.
-
I've only ever played Osu. Host suggested to me that we could try other things, but I wasn't really interested. I like competition and precision, and that game offers both. I also like editing games. Making your own personal product is nice.
Personally, I feel as though most games are either shooters, fighters or puzzle games. Does anyone know of a game that isn't too genre-specific and also requires a certain level of skill to play properly? The latter would be more important, but things like call of duty would be boring to me.
-
Been thumbing through my New Vegas mods, havin fun wit it.
Why is the mini gun so much better at gibbin people than the rocket launcher? Has quake taught me wrong?
-
Drop that server likes its hot.

Ea, you should take a look at Sam & Max. Although it may not directly be a puzzle or shooting game, its puzzling nature makes it comedic and sometimes difficult. You must think outside the box in order to play the Sam & Max games, as the plots are often hilariously sneaky. Start with season one. You didn't say anything about not liking adventure games.
Adventure games are fine. I'll try that, thanks.
-
Blizzard neckbeard reporting in, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, Diablo. Non-PC I usually play Demon/Dark Souls and Devil May Cry with an occasional Majora's Mask.
-
Has anyone ever played starbound? I have been told it's "a better terraria", thinking about picking it up if it's worth it.
-
Never played it, but I did see a ton of people being excited about it a while ago. It was impossible to talk of anything else than Starbound in that channel.
Someone else has been thinking of picking it up as well, because he likes Terraria. I'm not sure if Starbound is an upgraded Terraria or if it's more unique yet, guess we'll see one day.
-
Wait until it's out of beta, it's junk as is.
-
That is what some have said, not enough content. But I still have Terraria to finish, so I'm in no hurry, haha.

Killed Vivec & Almalexia today.
Felt good.
-
You didn't even enslave Vivec?
-
I enslaved his soul.
-
Yeah but. You could have him follow everywhere and people tend to attack him and it's funny.
-
I have no use for followers or False Gods.
-
But. Funny.
-
Maybe next time.
Also been playing lots of Civ 5. I need to plan my cities better, and I wish I didn't run into Washington so much. Fucker keeps stealing my forts.
-
Ford the river.
-
Sasha caught the Terraria bug.
HELP!
-
It's tupper crack.

I've been playing Rhythm Heaven lately. I recorded a video of myself playing badly but not too badly here (http://youtu.be/RDFWIjlUNpk).
Those monkeys, crikey. Fuck those monkeys.
Seriously. He gives the cringe like, "I think you're a lower existence than me because you have no rhythm. And I'm a monkey."
And on the clock when they just look sad when I don't high-five them. It's like they're pitying me, but at the same time they're saying, "Man, this guy is ruining all our fun. Why can't he just fit in with the rhythm like everyone else?". Fuck the monkeys.
Sands made a picture (http://i.imgur.com/PtCLQ7H.png) that adequately captures my experience with Rhythm Heaven Fever.
-
It's worse than I thought. I was making the grimacing monkey face the entire time.
Stop watching the screen woflo, feel the rhythm and play with your eyes closed. The visuals are there just to fuck with you.
>Good try.
-
Hey waffles did you beat Micro-row yet.
-
No. It was broken so I skipped it. Can't wait for Love Rap. I might stream this evening actually.
-
My body is ready. Will you be perfecting Flockstep later?
-
I'll be perfecting Flockstep never. I have no plans to revisit that. Unless there's a Flockstep 2 in which case fuck.
-
I'm pretty sure just about EVERYONE loves video games now
The video game industry is fucking garbage nowadays. All modern video games blow.
Old video games are the best.
Empire Earth is what I'm playing nowadays.
Also Tetris. But playing online against Japs is fucking hard.
-
Hey Methos you should try Rhythm Heaven Fever...
-
Red Alert 2 is amazing
-
First Rayman? That game was a childhood nightmare. Well it still is a nightmare because I swear no one play tested that thing to make sure it doesn't require pixel perfect jumps and unrealistic reflexes.
-
>skipping every single level after the couple of first ones
-
Might as well not play it at all.
-
My point exactly. Why do you hate us so, Rayman.
-
>YES
-
I wish they would fix Minecraft.
-
I recently finished playing Mother 3 on a GBA emulator. I streamed the whole thing, with Sands watching all of it and others, Yuki, Santango, Marco, and maybe some others I don't remember, watching some. The series tends to let you name its main characters, and the channel lent its members' names; Sands and DarkAnima made the parents of myself and Roswell as the two sons. Fede was the dog. Yuki was the useless monkey, Daecher was the crippled thief, and my host was the princess. How fitting some of these names were; my character ended up playing the leading role, unbeknownst to me at the time of naming (I won't spoil anything more, promise). There were also opportunities to name the player, which I identified as myself also; at times the game addressed me by name as such, which was quite surreal, especially nearer the end of the game.
Notice the 'Favourite Thing' item: this was played by Sands, with his foreknowledge, with comedic results later on in the game.
The game is a JRPG at heart. You're given not-quite-free roam of the game's setting, Nowhere Islands. The main village, Tazmily Village, is painted as a rich and vibrant small town, complete with living, breathing inhabitants.
Bottom right is the princess.
Mother 3 is very plot-driven. The narrative is very compelling and, at times, emotional. I have to admit I shed tears at more than one point.
There are no random encounters; instead enemies are sprites in your environment and contact with them initiates battle.
Standard physical and psi attacks, healing, and so forth. Two things stand out. The first is the rolling HP meter.
Perhaps you can see it rolling over there. When you lose health, the counter rolls down at a constant rate. Even if you lose all of your health, you won't die until your counter reaches zero. Also, I believe that when you heal, you stop losing HP when you apply the heal. This adds a time pressure to your menu choices in battle, but it certainly allowed me many a close shave in boss battles too. Exhilarating.
The other stand-out feature is the combo system.
Each enemy has a particular background music associated with it; by attacking in time with the beat, you can put in multiple strikes and combo, up to 16.
I managed this feat once. Some people apparently try to hit one on every song. The horror.
I should mention the soundtrack. It was really stellar. I downloaded it after I'd finished playing. It's also very long; there's a huge variety during the game. Which is just as well because my playthrough took me, by the count of my stream recordings, 28 hours. And every minute gripping.
Overall it was an absolutely fantastic recommendation by Sands, and you can consider me recommending it as well.
-
Dick is the greatest. See you again once we play Earthbound and get to choose more favorite things...
Earthbound and Mother 3 are like my favorite jRPGs, so I suggest everyone to play them. It's hard to say which one you will like more before you try them out, as they're very similar yet different enough that people often end up liking one over the other.
Also I know that Woflo cried, too.
-
Not like I was in control then but I totally didn't anyway.

No one believes your lies. Here's some music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fax72hPuoEw).

minecraft?
See you again once we play Earthbound and get to choose more favorite things...
that feel when probably never as ded forum is ded
-
It was Spyro 2. Fuck that game seriously, it's bullshit how are kids supposed to 100% it.
Anyway Earthbound whenever, maybe at some point. Forum might be ded but we're not.
-
Hey woflo I 100% it as a kid.
-
Should it be "100%ed"? Using percentages as verbs, wow. Future English is gonna be neat.
-
I'll go with just 100%.
The other two Spyros in the original trilogy went above 100%, how does that make you feel.
