Plot twist!
Do you think we can talk to them? Well, it's not Cat's problem. You try, if it fails we know what to do.

[Round 3]

Cat continues to lay in wait for one more round. She nervously looks over at Ashley seeing the Troll approach

Alice keeps motionless and tries to get a look at the troll to determine what equipment he's carrying. She also keeps a lookout for the ominous beastmaster. She peeks through the branches and sees the monster for what it is, it carries the ballista in it's hands and it's fists at the end of it's long arms are wrapped in iron spiked bands making his hands both giant sized clubs and considered light weapons to him.

[PERCEPTION 1d20+2=7, ARTIFICER/LORE 1d20+0=CM]

She notes that the Ballista has three bolts on top but has no idea how they work or if the troll can reload it, but one is ready to fire.

Yulya tries to calculate her chances of survival as the troll begins to move in her direction. It's all or nothing now. She hides deep in the tree and hopes for a miracle.

[ANGELIC INTERVENTION 1d20=9]

In her panic and dread she sees rays of light unimaginably piercing both the tree and the storm, the golden yellow rays shine around her in a divine warming glow, suddenly she receives a vision.

An angelic figure she knows as SheShe fills her heart with bravery and light if just for the moment, SheShe smiles and then gives an apologetic look. In Yulya's own mindvoice she perceives these thoughts, "you are about to face challenges that will test your abilities and will, tread carefully, not everything is an enemy. But... just so we're clear, everything you face at this moment is. I am always with you."

The image fades and Yulya's left alone and cold once again.

[For the record, I do not know what SheShe is talking about but she is usually right, so keep that in mind.]

Ashley can't see the Troll from her spot but it cannot see her either, however she she knows exactly what's going on through the multifaceted eyes of her dragonwasps. She sends another, BeeBee this time pops into the material plane and is swept south by the wind.

The dragonwasp fights to fly as far west as it can but ends up right where Beatrice was before her.

The troll swats at her. [HIT vs DC10 1d20+7=9] He misses with his main hand as BeeBee is tossed about in the wind, but then he swats at her with his off hand. [HIT vs DC10 1d20+7=10] This strike crushes her and she once again pops back to the negative plane. He examines his fist as if wondering where she went.

Ashley decides to back up,holdig her shield in front of her.

[Hidden Rolls]

The hooded figure on the wall sees this and calls out, "I know you're out there wizard! Our friend can smell you! Keep sending these worthless illusions, they'll do nothing! Leave now and you'll live to tell the tale, stay and you'll be fed to our pet! We have no accommodations for thieves and burglars." He then trains his crossbow on the field, looking for any sign of life but concentrating on the Northeast.

The beast moves Northeast, kicking snow out of his way. Though he cuts through Alice's tunnels, his destructive gate doesn't reveal anything unusual as he collapses them.

[The wake of the troll has flattened and compressed the snow disallowing tunnels.]

The hooded figure leans East as if preparing to keep sight of his 'friend'.

>Difficult terrain under a fir tree?

I'll forgive you since most of Europe has no trees, yes you are basically crawling under the tree, whether the terrain is difficult or not, if you're crawling it's half speed.

Also let me save you a little waste here, whether you use a stink bomb or smoke, it will only last one turn because of the wind. For the purposes of Vanilla reasoning, 21+mph wind will disburse any cloud in 1 turn. The wind here is approaching 50mph in gusts. The stink or smoke will be completely ineffective.

Orcas-tier
Remember, total destruction may be fun for the moment but is followed by an eternity of boredom.
Accept the way of the Winged Creature and preserve fun by keeping your players alive

I was thinking of throwing a stink bomb at the Troll to keep him from sniffing us out, but that's exactly what we want for the moment. Keep walking in our trap!

Btw, if there's no snow under the trees, does the area still count as difficult terrain?

Noted.

I read that as a DM I should TPK at least once early on, I know Alice will have a fit... I'm liking this idea more and more.

Obviously the encounter should happen where Cat is or N of that between the trees. I assume he will go NE now towards Ashley and Yulya. Yulya is well hidden but Ashley must be careful. Better move further W. Actually the only important thing is that the Troll goes somewhere that's obscured from the bandit's line of sight and within Yulya's 60ft spell range.
