On one hand Yulya is relieved she doesnt have to explain about halfling corpses but dealing with kobolds doesnt sound too good either.

Cat looks to Yulya for confirmation.
Nya what's the Dragon's Rest Yulya Nya?
Yulya shakes her head
I have no idea unfortunately. I am not well versed in such things. But she appears to be somewhat of a legend. Josephia would surely know a song about her.

Keeping a respectful distance Yulya adresses the kobolds
Greetings I am Yulya the leader of this party. I apologize for any inconvenience we my have caused you. Please be at ease we are not here to cause trouble. But as my party member Cat stated we unfortunately need to finish our poison arrow production this evening. I hope it is not too much of a bother for you. But we certainly accept your invitation for a meal if we may!
Yulya is unsure about kobold cuisine but feels a refusal would be very rude.

Alice musters the strange beings that appear to be a mix of different animals crudely stitched together by a bad taxidermist with a sick sense of humor and gets a quick explanation from Yulya
Quote
[As a race of humanoid, they barely qualify, yet they have rarely appeared in adventuring parties in the burglar role as their size and sure-footedness make them excellent scouts, thieves and light martials. Their affinity for magic also makes them excellent mages and spellswords but have never been known as clerics as their race is not generally accepted in human society or the church. They often disguise themselves as halflings as a result. Many demis like them, humanoid with animalistic faces, are relegated to the lowest castes in society, more of a curiosity than anything and generally regarded as lesser races. Though they are descendants of dragons, their creation is unknown to modern genealogists. Though it is theorized that ancient draconians and a more elf-like goblin ancestor somehow managed to mate, though the canid aspects of their physiology is a mystery. Less than 20% of kobolds are born with wings, and those who have them always fully functional. They have keen senses that fade in their later years.]
Alice wonders how and why their ancestor races mated, suppressing a chuckle. She keeps watch of the fire leaving the talking to others as there does not appear to be an immediate threat

As the situation appears to be resolved, Alice turns to Cat
Watch the fire again! I gotta stir this stuff!

Alice now gets a chance to give the kobolds  a closer look and they are confronted with an odd doll-like girl their size wearing a cloak with wolf ears.
Hello to you all, I'm Alice!
Sorry I was busy, somebody has to watch the pot and this will take about 3 hours. I would really like to try your cooking in the mean time.
Alice also wonders if their food would resemble the strange genetic mix of those creatures.

Hey, by the way, are you familiar with poison production? We really could need some help and advice from senior adventurers here! This is my first crude attempt to make poisoned arrows and blades. We encountered hordes of goblins and wolves lately and a quicker way to get rid of them with ranged weapons would be a life-saver!

Looking at them, Alice decides not to mention dragons not knowing whether they are on the undoubtedly long list of sexual preferences of those folks.

Oh you're kobolds and adventurers too Nya we thought you were halflings Nya! Yeah I think your guys are over here Nya!
Sorry for scaring off your men Nya but they were gone when we arrived Nya!
We don't mind you Nya and and a taste of your cuisine would be interesting Nya but you might wanna stay away from our pot and the downwind area Nya! We have a few more hours work ahead Nya that needs to be finished Nya! But the place is big enough Nya! So make yourselves at home Nya you were here first Nya!

Greetings I am Yulya the leader of this party. I apologize for any inconvenience we my have caused you. Please be at ease we are not here to cause trouble. But as my party member Cat stated we unfortunately need to finish our poison arrow production this evening. I hope it is not too much of a bother for you. When they return, there are 9 kobolds with them, 7 are male, 2 female. They each introduce themselves timidly Mumpo, Mek, Minn, Rix (F), Frub, Agga (F), Snarve, Jax and Lum. Tarak opens his pack and begins to set up for starting their own fire to make dinner. He addresses the group, "Thank you for allowing us to share the site again, I'll set up over here away from your ring."

[Rix]

[Snarve]

There are several rings other than the main one and he his his set up and started within a few minutes.

Looking at them, Alice decides not to mention dragons not knowing whether they are on the undoubtedly long list of sexual preferences of those folks.

Of the Sexual Nature, Preferences, and origins of Kobolds
By Joy

Kobolds do not typically have sexual urges as other humanoids do, and the cause for that may be owed to many factors in their heritage.

Firstly, Draconians, the corrupted result of dark magic used on unfertilized metallic dragon eggs, are said to be the paternal genetic lineage of kobolds but are generally asexual as they're created and not born through sexual means. Draconians are always created male and though functional as males, have no counterpart to procreate with and are considered sterile though they are not necessarily so; no one has yet to test and documents the results, or no documentation exists. Draconians at the very least don't find any other species attractive enough to bother. Though they were supposedly mated to the goblin ancestors, no Draconian would believe that. The elves in question, an extinct and rather fair subspecies of elf marked by especially long, horizontally opposed ears no longer occur naturally in the material plane, they do however exist in the ethereal plane as all spirits are apt to do. If placed next to a tree elf and a goblin, you might even believe them to be a corrupted hybrid of the two, but this is historically inaccurate. The goblin race was a corrupted form of what are also known as Sehanine elves. The last of that species died out or were corrupted more than two millennia ago. They were known to be aromatic though they could be persuaded when they did find love. They were also powerful manipulators of genetics and were responsible for some of the creatures on the material plane today. They were also ancestors to some of the races of fey and so you can see their influence in some of the fairies that inhabit the faewild though they are not related to Eladrin elves.

Kobolds therefore have little sex drive normally. They do however procreate with vigor and enjoyment but only in pairs and only when a female is ready. When a young kobold reaches the age of 9 she will begin a process akin to puberty which culminates in the development of her more feminine traits and after a few months of development, up to a season, her labia majora will swell and temporarily force open the interlocking scales otherwise normally covering the area. At this time she will become receptive and her scent will start to attract potential partners. She will choose one and they will frolic and chase each other around naked for a day or two before mating. The mating will last for a day or two where they copulate a few dozen times per day, after which her receptiveness will end and her partner will also lose interest though they will typically remain close friends afterwards and may partner again the next time. Kobolds have been known only to be receptive to other kobolds and their genitalia are somewhat complimentary and uniquely developed. There has been known cases where kobold slaves were receptive to other demi slaves of different species during her heat, or their masters' will, but those opportunities are only fleeting and only repeat at most once a year if they don't lay fertilized eggs, if they do, two years will typically elapse. The eggs are collected and grouped in such a way that the parentage of any given kobold youngling is unknown. This is proposed as one of the reasons why they have such a strange variation in their form. Though inbreeding is undocumented and denied, it almost surely occurs.

Certain kobolds will naturally take the roll of nursemaids and will raise the younglings who are dependent on kobold milk for the first few months of their development, graduating to an omnivorous diet once they start teething.

Kobolds see other humanoids as you might perceive a species of dog or rabbit, they can hardly tell a male from a female other than obvious traits. They may also mistake a halfling for a human child or a young dwarf and have a hard time remembering one humanoid in a race from another unless they have unique characteristics.

In dealing with dragons, Kobolds see them not as ancestors or cousins but as deities, they believe the dragons made them and completely discredit any notion that they were created by elves or draconians. Elves are alien to them and they see draconians as abominations of what could have been a god in dragon form. They also will worship dragons, even chromatic ones, as easily as they might true dragon gods.

Civilized Kobolds who have spent time in general society do understand the difference between dragons and gods and reject some of the tribal nature of dragon worshiping kobolds.

Hello to you all, I'm Alice!
Sorry I was busy, somebody has to watch the pot and this will take about 3 hours. I would really like to try your cooking in the mean time.

Varnoth comes over to you with a unreadable expression and surprisingly pats you on the shoulder, "You're in for a treat, Alice. Tarak is our best chef." The other kobolds are sitting around the new ring, if you glance their way some smile back, others look nervous. You can tell some are little more then children, Rix and Snarve being the youngest. They chat quietly in their shared language.

Tavak's ears perk, "Oh? So that's what you're doing?" He calls to Agga and she takes over his preparations. Then he walks over and sticks his nose right into the pot, "umm uhm, well you're not going to get the best potency this way, I'm an avid botanist. Don't use Tabaco next time, it's inferior to Oleander, it occurs frequently along the roads to the South. He sees a pile of fibers on the ground from your last batch and nods, "you can squeeze this for more, you'll get upwards of five more doses out of it. If you don't have a press, well, next time. Otherwise, alcohol is a good choice, you can make acid strong enough to distill it that way but it only saves time."

He eyes Ashley and Nixie as he walks back to his fire and begins cooking. He says something to his group and they all cheer and make yum sounds. He talks back to your group, "I told them this will be beefsteak from Neverwinter, we can get more tomorrow, why not share?"

He pulls out a thin bladed knife and sterilizes it in the fire, then sure enough he pulls a large piece of beef from his pack and begins carving it. He has a large flat cast iron pan and he has some of his helpers make sturdy branches to hold it up over the fire using vine rope.

After slicing the steaks, he has nearly two dozen of various sizes, he takes little bags, pinching spice on them and rubbing it in with the side of the blade. He seems careful not to touch the meat, handling it with only tools and utensils he has sterilized just before use. His effort and care shows he really cares about the quality of preparation. He also quickly mixes up a sauce out of ingredients from his pack and puts that to the side. It has a vinegary sweet scent.

Ashley lets Mr. and Mrs. Bigglesworth go and they slowly creep over to the kobolds and one of them in particular, Rix, is frozen in fear by the dark haired feline when it approaches. Mr. Bigglesworth meows cutely and one of them lays prone and sneaks up on the cat, then reaches up and touches his paw. Another comes from the other side and very gently strokes the back of the curious cat. After a few utterances in their native language, soon they're all petting and examining the mechatronic kitten. Rix very cautiously touches him and he pushes into her with the side of his head which causes her to 'eep' and fall over. In no time they're laughing a high pitched sort of chuckle and soon Mrs. Bigglesworth is being chased around and chasing the younger kobolds.

Ashley moves over toward them and sits around their fire to avoid the fumes of the poison and soon they're discussing the cats and Nixie. Nixie begins cleaning herself and the braver kobolds chance to touch her fur and exposed metallic components. They're amazed by her construction and marvel at the melding of beast and machine.

Ashley opens her eyes wide and many look at them closely, some jump back others stand agape when they see the orange hot gears whirring away behind her pupils. She soon has them laughing as she describes some of the adventures you've shared over the time you've been out.

"I've misjudged you Ashley the Summoner," Tarak says and offers her a taste of the sauce on a wooden spoon. "This will seal the deal."

Ashley tastes it willingly and licks her lips, "oh! Nice! Oh I like that!"

Varnoth sits next to her, leaning in and pointing at Tarak and recalling tails of his legendary cooking.

"Come on over Yulya, taste this!"

[Interactions required.]

For Yulya to read of she dares taste it.
The sauce starts out slightly sweet and tangy, but it quickly becomes evident that this is about the spiciest thing Yulya has ever tasted, something hotter than any pepper she'd had before. The flavor is earthy umami, savory, pungent, overpowering even but if she can handle the heat, delicious.

Cat returns to overseeing the poison cooking and listens to Tavak's advice
Tavak's ears perk, "Oh? So that's what you're doing?" He calls to Agga and she takes over his preparations. Then he walks over and sticks his nose right into the pot, "umm uhm, well you're not going to get the best potency this way, I'm an avid botanist. Nya thank you Nya!
We were looking for oleander but heard it was banned in Neverwinter Nya! So we had no chance to gather it until now Nya! We will look for it along the road Nya!

As Alice takes over again, Cat watches Tavak's cooking techniques with great interest

Nice, thanks!
Alice is delighted that for once somebody doesn't cringe at her appearance or outright ignores her

Yes, we thought about buying acid but it's reeally expensive, and the thought of carrying a corrosive liquid in fragile containers isn't too thrilling when you're an adventurer.
A press would be nice but we're already overburdened with luggage. Any advice how we could improvise one with common items? We have a heavy cart in Neverwinter. Running over the fibers with the wheels would certainly work but we'd need something to collect the squeezed- out liquid like a leather hid or something...

Alice watches Ashley play with the others but focuses on her task. Somebody's gotta work here!

Yulya relays to the others not to mention their dragon-slaying quest suspecting that this would probably not sit well with the kobolds.

"Come on over Yulya, taste this!"
Yulya emerges from her distant position and approaches more timidly than the kobold children. This meal seems surprisingly normal for such strange humanoids and looks even more normal than Cats mystery meat
Uhm yes thank you for your hospitality!

Yulya takes a small taste of the sauce and as it tastes both normal and good - a much bigger sip. Only then the spiciness kicks in but it is too late as Yulya realizes her mistake. Having lived off a simple and bland hermit meals Yulya is not used to spicy food. Her face slowly turns crimson red while she tries to keep a pokerface in order not to embarrass her hosts. Her sweating increases but this time not from fear but the burning sensation.
After making a series of weird and embarrassing noises Yulya runs off to drink water which does not help much to remove the spiciness. It takes a few minutes until Yulya returns - panting and crying tears much to the amusement of others.

This - is - very - good but a bit - too spicy for my taste! I apologize but your amazing sauce is too hot for me!

After she has recovered somewhat Yulya shares her hazelnut cookies from Phandalin with the kobold children and tries to determine if the kobolds know something about the freezing incident in Phandalin.
This is an unexpected encounter indeed! May I ask you for the reason you came here?
We are making last preparations and will depart for Phandalin tomorrow to deliver goods and deal with some strange phenomena in the area. Have you heard the land there is completely frozen? Nobody seems to know why-  some suspect a dragon others a powerful mage. But it appears the effect is of enormous power and covers a large area. A very peculiar situation that affects a lot of people!

A press would be nice but we're already overburdened with luggage. Any advice how we could improvise one with common items?

He turns out his hands, "Honestly I'm not the tinkerer, Maya, another good friend of mine, would provide such things if I needed it and it was too expensive to buy." He chuckles at your suggestion of running over it with a cart and shrugs, "The things we do, luxury this is not." and has nothing further to say.

This is an unexpected encounter indeed! May I ask you for the reason you came here?

Vernoth is standing near and answers while Tarak continues cooking, "We make the trek to Neverwinter very rarely, it would be nice if Lelion wasn't so expensive for what we need, but there are times we need things that aren't practical to get locally. Every once in a long while our leader, Runara, will sometimes go to Thornhold but we don't trust the drawves will show the kind of respect she deserves. It's usually just Tarak and I but the younglings and others need to learn this for the time when we're no longer around. They've been sheltered too long it seems." She looks over to them, even with Ashley's icebreaking techniques, some still look nervous. "Imagine if we did have to fight, I can't imagine they would fare well."

"The only way you learn is by doing and they did well against those dangerous rabbits," Tarak adds.

Varnoth rolls her eyes and smiles, "yeah."

"Phandalin, it's a ruin correct? Hm, I haven't been that way in 20 years. Oh what did you say? They suspect a dragon of freezing the land?" She pauses in contemplation, "excuse me please." She turns to Tarak and speaks with a low tone, "tir wux jinthil phandalin? algbo vi draushum tepohaic ahfvena svern persvek wer ruins kagh ui ksenyair n'teaz'r."

Tarak eyes Yulya and says softly and calmly, "coi ui|ulph grover mojka de udoka, ehs di hesi nouhai, origato udoka kax coi."

Varnoth turns with an unreadable expression, "I suppose we don't get the latest news from the East, I don't know your business, but I wish you stay safe." She turned to the other kobolds, Snarg has picked up a stick and is pretending to fight unseen foes. She barks at their frivolity, than picks Snarg right off his feat and shakes him to his utter delight, "you will be a great warrior some day, perhaps the day before your death at this rate, you need training not more play, use a real sword at least!"

Yulya is left to cool off in the cool night air.

[Tuesday, Spring 18, 20:00, 10C, Clear]

The full moon brings welcome light to the camp, Alice and Cat are about half done when Tarak calls dinner. The kobolds clamor to grab some but he blocks them, "hesi fevekic irral" he turns to Yulya, Ashley, Alice and Cat and offers a wooden disc with large slabs of grilled and glazed meat there are small edible leaves with the thick and gelatinous "sauce" on the side. "We don't stand on ceremony, and we don't bring utensils on travel, so dig in friends."

Ashley steps up, her stomach growling from all her play, grabs a slab and a leaf and smothers it with the jam-like sauce. Then bites it happily. She chews a little while Tarak and the other kobolds watch in anticipation. She smiles and gives a thumbs up, "Delicious" She manages to say with her mouth full.

"Have more if you wish, there's plenty for all." Tarak says. "And you three?" He offers to Cat Yulya and Alice.

[He's grilled and then sliced the roast sized chunks of beef, there is a nice char on the surface and the center is pink but not bloody. He's already put some sort of glaze on the meat after cutting but the hot sauce is not part of that. Next to it are mushroom stuffed dumplings of some kind.]

Nixie has been pre-occupied, staring at the tree-line to the South, so Ashley gives her a command and Nixie pounces off toward it with lightning speed. Surprisingly quietly for such a large beast.

The kobolds are startled by the sudden sprint of the large cat and wonder what it was after.

"The only way you learn is by doing and they did well against those dangerous rabbits," Tarak adds.
Varnoth rolls her eyes and smiles, "yeah."
Yes, these are dire times. I used to live peacefully as a hermit but the area around Neverwinter is no longer safe. Overrun by monsters. You surely have seen the refugees trying to enter the city for safety.

Yulya is utterly puzzled by receiving an answer in kobold language and too confused to reply or ask further questions.

Yulya is relieved the sauce is not all over the food and graccefully takes her share
Thank you for this elaborate meal! I am afraid I will have to pass on the sauce but I am sure it will still be delicious!

Nixie has been pre-occupied, staring at the tree-line to the South, so Ashley gives her a command and Nixie pounces off toward it with lightning speed. Surprisingly quietly for such a large beast.
Ashley what's going on? Is there an enemy or game to hunt?

You surely have seen the refugees trying to enter the city for safety.

Varnoth answers, "Not personally, but they didn't charge such a hefty fee to enter without tags before, and you used to be able to bring guests, times are changing, growing darker. We will stay out of it for now."

Ashley what's going on? Is there an enemy or game to hunt?

"I couldn't tell, something big, she'll let me know in a minute."
