Ashley steps out of the tent with a stretch
Ah, looks like our very own beastmaster finally is up! Good morning!

Alice please release her!
Alice quickly unties the rope that binds Danielle and sets her free
Off you go! Have fun in the tent!

M-He saw that and said, "she's dead. No one rats out the Cloaked Wolves and lives, she's dead for talking and you're dead for listening.
Still feeling alive here, kind of, but thank you for your concern!
Alice responds in a bored tone.

I hope they're not having an hour-long tea-party in there, I'm about as keen of waiting out here in the snow as you are. So what's about this cold? It just sucks, doesn't it? I hate cold! Who thought this was a good idea? I'm gonna collect the ears of whoever's behind this for sure. Be it dragon, archdemon, black spider, master of the arcane or whatever.

[CHA vs DC15 1d20+0M,+2F=Male succeeds:1
Female succeeds:2]

Question 1: Why were you involved with the goblins in the den? What does the Black Spider need them for?

M-"I wasn't involved with them, that was one of our temporary hideouts before those things moved in, I don't know anything else."

F-"I wasn't there at the time, Alric and a few of us came here directly."

Question 2: How can they nullify magic?

M-"All I know is, once the shackles are on, the magic stops."

F-"I think they use Earthstones, from those I've spoken to it's impossible to summon magic with them, I don't know anything else." As far as you can tell, she's telling the truth, she doesn't appear to be a magic user though so she wouldn't know much about it.

Question 3: Can the brooches also be tracked like the whistle? How does the registration work? Can you tell which brooch is yours?
Yulya holds them both up.

M-"I can tell by touch, but my hands are tied or I'd prove it to you."

F-"Yes, I would also know it's hard to describe otherwise. I get a sense where it is, like it's calling to me."

Wanna have a go at them Nya?

"I'm not sure... I had this feeling that it was important then I forget all about it."

Ah, looks like our very own beastmaster finally is up! Good morning!

"Why do I feel like you're up to no good?"

Excellent timing Ashley! I hope you are well! I have to introduce you to someone!

Yulya, the female bandit and Ashley go into the tent. Daniella is initially very apprehensive and surprised there was no monster in the tent.

So what's about this cold? It just sucks, doesn't it? I hate cold! Who thought this was a good idea? I'm gonna collect the ears of whoever's behind this for sure. Be it dragon, archdemon, black spider, master of the arcane or whatever.

He stares blankly at Alice, "You want to talk about the weather? Untie me and give me my symbol first."

[Inside the Tent]

"Daniella I know you are skilled. You avoided my spell half of the time. I do not know your circumstances but I will give you one more chance to tell the full truth and briefly summarize everything for Ashley. Tell me about Alrics vision and the so called 'Greater Good'. How did a silver rank adventurer end up with bandits?"

Yulya fills Ashley in on the important parts, Daniella glances occasionally at Ashley and adds where necessary. Seeing something in her eyes, she's hesitant to look her fellow 'human' directly. "Did... did you- are you the master of that large black cat?"

"Kinda yeah, you could say that."

"I also need to know what other monsters he had and what effect his death will have on them. And any other information you deem useful for us. To be clear we have a mission here. We will clear this mine."

Daniella rubs her wrists and looks around nervously, she leans in and whispers despite the howling wind and no chance of the other bandit hearing, "Considering 'I'm dead' anyway, I'm not holding back. Alric's summons don't exist without him, he could also charm beasts, but without his constant care they'll revert to wild beasts, but most importantly, he wasn't recruited, he infiltrated their ranks. It's a long story but he joined when I was still... incapacitated by them and he never treated me like they did, in fact, he seemed to only play the roll when he needed to and that's how I knew he wasn't really one of us, or them. The Cloaked Wolves are smugglers but they also have other interests if those interests are aligned with cheating, stealing or otherwise taking advantage of the nobility, but otherwise they're just traders, specifically of one good and the greater good would be moving the organization away from the less, more immoral side of the trade. Some of them are also themselves nobility and legitimate traders. What the Cloaked Wolves have done is turn it into a high risk, high reward trade and as a result of that, one of the nobles were killed recently on the high road and all his 'cargo' taken, not by us, by other stray adventurers. Another group was thwarted by another group on the Triboar trail. We came here I presume to set a trap for them, but then... oh..." Danielle has a stark realization that the ones they were setting up to trap are in fact the ones she's talking to. "Oh... well that could have gone better."

"What do you mean?"

"Did you four... happen upon a noble by the name of 'Von Brassel'?"

"We're not saying we did or didn't."

"He had a large shipment, that set the Cloaked Wolves back quite a bit, so if you were then you'd be the number one enemy of them by now..." She thinks carefully, "I suppose this makes sense now, we wouldn't have come here to set up just for the two. And with the Black Spider here, I suppose there's no way they'll let... whoever did that, get away with it."

"What about this black spider, how dangerous is it?"

"He isn't a spider, he's The Spider, a drow, one of the highest rank as far as I know, and not usually involved directly." She shook her head, "You all have to get out of here if you want to live, that's not a threat, there is a battalion in there! You may be skilled and you took out our troop, but you can't possibly win against them all."

"Then tell us how we can do the most damage."

She looked confused, "I'm not sure but that place is a maze, if you're dead set on entering, then do so with stealth and leave if the odds aren't in your favor. If you're captured, you will become cargo. If you don't know what I'm speaking of yet, specifically the Cloaked Wolves deal in the slave trade, both legally and not so legally."

Even Cat's ears can't pick up what's going on in the tent. She throws more branches into the fire and begins honing her Greatsword
Patience Nya we're more than happy to throw you out Nya! Won't be long Nya!

He stares blankly at Alice, "You want to talk about the weather? Untie me and give me my symbol first."
Before the bandit can finish his sentence, Alice cuts him off and continues her monologue while circling him with slow steps

This isn't 'weather'! Someone's creating this cold and wind on purpose to piss me off! White Dragon my ass. I know who's behind it all. Black Spider, what a silly name on top of this utter foolishness.

Alice gives the bandit a look of disdain and shakes her head
His ears - I am not sure what to do with them yet - but they will get a special place in my collection...

Yulyas face turns paler with each of Daniellas responses. Her already faked confidence collapses like a house of cards realizing every enemy they had defeated so far was part of this organization and they now walked into a trap set up for them.

Yulyas paranoia skyrockets. Who set up this trap? Sir Sildar? Master Edermath? Are even Gundren and his brothers members of this organization? Mister Stonehill even? Had Alice been right from the beginning? Yulya fears all of Phandalin is involved in a conspiracy against them yet nothing appears to make sense. Yulya shakes her head and tries to assess the situation logically

Daniella dear!
You would not happen to be able to provide a description of the Black Spider? His look age manners of speech? Anything? Have you ever met him in person?

Do you know a man named Sildar Hallwinter? Does that name sound familiar?

Are there any orcs or other monsters in the mine? Or other human prisoners?

Do you know anything about the source of this unusual cold and wind?

I appreciate your concern for us but what about you? You still have not told us what your plans are now. Is there somewhere you can go?

As Cat and Alice play nice outside, the negotiations continue inside the tent.

Daniella dear!
You would not happen to be able to provide a description of the Black Spider? His look age manners of speech? Anything? Have you ever met him in person?

She looks unsure what to say, the truth spell has worn off, and she knows this, "I can only tell you based on what others have said, cunning, intelligent, strategic, manipulative, ambitious, resourceful, and powerful. I can't confirm this but it's said he could take a dragon single handedly. He has spies everywhere, in places you would least suspect, oh, and he's a powerful wizard as well. How he speaks? I can't say. His age? Do elves age I don't think they do. He also goes by Nezzner if that helps?"

Do you know a man named Sildar Hallwinter? Does that name sound familiar?

She seems to be telling the truth, "I don't know of him, no."

"I don't trust him, he's probably a spy, do you know who set us up?"

She shakes her head, "I can't say for sure."

[INSIGHT(Group) vs DC12 1d20+7=14] Based on this it's unlikely she's capable of lying such that you won't know but she can still be withholding information or carefully crafting her responses.

Are there any orcs or other monsters in the mine? Or other human prisoners?

She looks down as if ashamed, "There were two young girls obtained by nefarious means recently, and Alric was determined to stop the transaction, but they were taken deep into the mine before he could take action, I don't know what happened to them. I haven't seen a live orc in the mine but I've never gone past the first level, I did see the remains of a dead one. There's a lot of dead and death in that mine, the bodies I saw are old and desiccated, they have some sort of means to keep the smell down."

"There's still a chance those girls can be saved, what's on the first level?" [Persuasion(Group) vs DC12 1d20+6=21]

She looks hopeful, "There's an elaborate ore cart system in good working order, a recently worked on very large elevator, tunnels going everywhere, this level has been mined to exhaustion and wood floors and walls added to block off exhausted shafts. The ceiling is still riddled with shafts going every direction, I have no idea how far they go. I heard someone threw a stone down the elevator shaft and they didn't hear it hit the bottom. There's also work tables, tool racks with lots of mining equipment and other related items, and a small barracks that looks like it was recently constructed, like the palisades. I don't know what's down there, but they went through a lot of trouble to fortify the entrance and secure it. We were sleeping in the main barracks, that sleeps 4. There's also food and provisions in the work room. I didn't get a chance to explore much though. I don't know how long I was out, but when we left no one else was on the first floor, everyone else took the elevator shaft down, and it was pitch black to look down when they did. I don't know about most of it, we stayed near the entrance and helped move supplies to the elevator shaft. I wish I knew more."

Do you know anything about the source of this unusual cold and wind?

"I can't say I do, it's very unusual this far south, even for the mountains this time of year."

I appreciate your concern for us but what about you? You still have not told us what your plans are now. Is there somewhere you can go?

She shook her head, "I can't go to Phandalin, Triboar is an option but I won't be able to stay, my only hope is to somehow get the supplies to travel East, I'll just keep going until I'm either caught or long forgotten. Even the Cloaked Wolves' reach isn't infinite, but the sword coast is firmly in their grasp." She glances toward the tent door, "I know he will track me, I know he'll follow me if we're released together, please, I know I'm not in a position to ask, but if you do care about me, after what I've told you, release me first and give me a long head start, at least hours, the longer the better. I don't know if I'll make it to Triboar before he catches me, but I know he'll go to Triboar too. So I won't be able to stay there either. I know you took my purse, you have my weapons and everything I own other than the clothes on my back, my dagger would get me far, my purse would give me the supplies I need. I had 160 silver saved up, even a quarter of that would be enough."

Ashley sighs and holds up a purse, counting out 40 silver. She also holds up a dagger and sheath, "Yulya, I'm counting this from my own supply and I'll pay the sale price of this dagger if need be. Daniella, don't be stupid, if we catch you again my pet will eat you like it was said yours would eat us. Yulya, I say we let her go if we're done with her, and as she says, hold the other one for a while. We should feed her too, I say we don't feed him, that'll give her the advantage. She's given us a lot of good information I might be able to jam the elevator and trap them down until we're ready if the first level is clear. At this point we need the karma. Do you still want your brooch?"

Daniella looks hopefully at Yulya then back at Ashley, "at this point, no, but be wary of it as it may be possible someone else can track it, I don't know."

Very odd but as I expected! At least we know the girls we were looking for are here. We shall get to the bottom of this - literally!

Yulya nods
No need to worry we are on the same boat here Ashley!

She hands Daniella two rations from her pack.
Thank you Daniella. That was a lot of useful information! I hope this will feed you for a while. This was made by our Barbarian cook and is of excellent quality. I wish you all the best and shall pray for your safe journey. We will hold that man as long as we can. Please slip away quietly now but wait a moment! I still have one more gift for you!

Alice give Daniella your shortbow! You can use her hunters bow instead! You can take your quiver as well Daniella! I do hope we meet again in more fortunate circumstances one day. Farewell!

He rolls his eyes and sighs until he hears about nobles, "Are you from that Tabaxi tribe that got wiped out? You can thank a high noble for that. Even we're not brazen enough to try to attack a warrior tribe for girls. I could tell you who it was but you wouldn't know him and he's dead anyway. That happens when you take a Marquis' men and promise a Marquis fresh tabaxi girls and return with neither." He laughed, "that's one thing you adventurers are good for, at least the assassins types, they're real good at making it look like an accident."

Hey, how do you guys even level up? Do you have bandit orbs or something?

The bandit snorts in derision at her question, and looks away, "I'm waiting to be untied, we can have our tea party conversation then."

[In the tent]

She hands Daniella two rations from her pack. And Ashley gives her her dagger and 40 silver.

Thank you Daniella. That was a lot of useful information! I hope this will feed you for a while. This was made by our Barbarian cook and is of excellent quality. Yulya feels a warm soothing aura around her, she somehow knows it's Eldath's warming energy surround her, and she can feel a comforting motherly love along with a serenity she's not felt in what seems like a very long time.

Ashley feels like she needs to take a bath.

Yulya fetches Alice and brings her to the tent.

Alice give Daniella your shortbow! You can use her hunters bow instead! You can take your quiver as well Daniella! I do hope we meet again in more fortunate circumstances one day.

Alice strolls into the tent and is confronted with having to give her bow to a bandit.
You want me to do whaat?
Just kidding! I'm collecting ears, not bows. It's a good deal, your hunting bow is much better.

Alice hands her the shortbow
This served me well though I only had it a few days. Shoot that moron if he stalks you!

Alice agrees to give her the short bow.

"It feels kinda weird to give you back a smaller bow and take 3/4 of your coin, but ya did lose and regardless of your current cooperation, you would have captured us just the same, so..."

Daniella Shakes her head and speaks up, "no, I do not hold this against you in any way, if I make it somewhere I can start over I will do my best to return to my calling, a city guard or militia, a legitimate one that would be against anyone who isn't 100% above board."

Ashley laughs, knowing even she's not 100% above board by a longshot, "well then good luck, I'll make a distraction for you, when you hear me yell at the other guy, run."

I hope we can keep that bandit busy for a while he kept complaining the entire time and I am out of arguments to hold him any longer....

"I'll take a turn watching him." Ashley clears her throat and projects her voice at the tent flap, "AND AFTER YOUR WORTHLESS INFORMATION YOU THINK WE'LL JUST LET YOU GO?! HA AHAHAHAHH!" Loud enough to be heard she then gives Daniella a thumbs up and exits the tent.

"Cat, help me move this lout, and by that I mean, please move that lout to the side of the tent into the tree cove. Gotta get that armor off, so you'll need to hold him as I get it off." Ashley summons Nixie.

With a loud bang that is always louder than you remember, Nixie materializes. She immediately lunges for the Bandit. "Hey hey! We need him conscious!"

Nixie stops inches from him, drool dripping from her mechatherial jaws.

"what the frick is this thing?" The bandit says, fear in his eyes.

"Hungry, now let's go."

Assuming Cat helps, if you don't want to, I'll re-write this. He's brought to the side of the tent and Ashley yells, "THERE'S A NEW SHERIF IN TOWN, IF YOU WANT TO LIVE, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR A SINGLE PEEP OTHER THAN ANSWERING OUR QUESTIONS DIRECTLY! GOT IT?"

The bandit looks cooperative.

[Back in the tent.]

Before she goes, Yulya hands Daniella two rations.

Daniella looks appreciative straps on the bow and dagger, stuffs the coin purse and rations in her pockets and runs down the path you took up the mountain.

[Cat, please state if you help Ashley. Interactions required.]

Alice remains in the tent and re-shapes, sending out several protrusions that make the tent wobble and rustle with eerie noises as if Daniella was being devoured by a monster
