Ashley uses hand signals to convey her possible plan.

Alice dons her Vest of Protection and Miner's outfit while glancing over to Ashley.
What is she doing? Did the blast hit her head?

Haa, if only we had more caltrops we could mine the shore...
Alice moves over to Cat and wants to prepare a wild dog meat bait, only to realize it's in Peace, the bag at the elevator. Alice races off to get 2lbs of meat.

Cat is angry she missed the snake and it escaped. When Alice returns with the meat, Cat ties it to her 30ft rope and throws it at the waterline, then slowly pulls the rope with jerky movements as if fishing. She's  staying as far away as possible (30ft) and if a monster moves too close falls back to the others.

[Round 3]

Yulya casts Embolding bond between Cat and Alice.

Alice and Cat prepare Octopus bait.

When Alice returns with the meat, Cat ties it to her 30ft rope and throws it at the waterline, then slowly pulls the rope with jerky movements as if fishing. She's  staying as far away as possible (30ft) and if a monster moves too close falls back to the others.

Ashley stands ready with her minions, unsure what's going on, but summons Beatrice anyway.

The mine is dead quiet, a ripple moves through the water betraying unseen activity.

Cat gives temporary HP to Nixie. She yanks at the bait to try to get the monsters attention
Quiet Nya! If this doesn't work Na we'll have to use Alice again Nya!

Alice observes the waterline and readies her bow with a honed arrow, ready to shoot any dumb monster coming after the meat

Yulyas eyes desperately dart between Ashley and Alice and Cat shes not sure what either of them is planning. Seeing Cat fumble with the rope Yulya moves over and casts GUIDANCE on her.

[I'm as clueless as Yulya here, you'll all need to describe exactly what you're doing]

[Action replay of the octopus bait construction and deploy - 8K, 4D chess edition]

Alice arrives with 2lbs of dog meat and skewers it on Cat's grappling hook which is tied to the rope.
Cat swings the rope and tosses it at the waterline so the meat touching the water becomes palpable to underwater organisms. Cat pulls on the rope, it's jerky movements mimicking tasty bait wriggling in the water. Slowly pulling it back, Cat attempts to lure one of the creatures out of the water, or at least make them surface.

The goal is not 'fishing' (or rather snaking, octopussing), as it getting the prey entangled on the rope as even Cat would not be able to pull the huge creatures out.The goal is simply to lure one of them out of the water so they can be range-attacked and eventually separated and flanked. Attacking both of them would be suicidal. We would have to take out one with ranged attacks first before we can enter melee with the other. I still assume only the snake can move on land as the octopus probably can't support his own body weight without the buoyancy of water. But what do I know, it appears this octopus can do it all.

Of course any creature that surfaces should also be stung by a wasp. We probably have to wear one down like this with ranged attacks only. The question is how long that works before they realize they only take damage without prospect of food and won't come out without a victim in range. That's why we have to offer them a reward as well. If that's not enough Cat will probably have to pile up more dog meat garnished with ghoul. Can you even eat them? Let's find out.

So the plan is - meat fishing - meat pile - live bait (summons or me). We gotta keep them entertained with different bait or they won't come out after a few hits. But we can't communicate this while deafened

[Some time after 8K4D, Cat is no longer Raging, all temporary HP has expired save for 5 if over 5, deafness has subsided, Ashley is able to heal Nixie using rally heal, Bless is still active. The dust has cleared revealing the impassible rubble of the collapsed areas.]

Here's the recap:

Alice arrives with 2lbs of dog meat and skewers it on Cat's grappling hook which is tied to the rope.
Cat swings the rope and tosses it at the waterline so the meat touching the water becomes palpable to underwater organisms. Cat pulls on the rope, it's jerky movements mimicking tasty bait wriggling in the water. Slowly pulling it back, Cat attempts to lure one of the creatures out of the water, or at least make them surface.

The cats look on with interest, but nothing happens.

Exhibit A:

In the aftermath of the ordeal, 10lbs of meat has been lost by various methods, activity at the water's edge included precision strikes by stray tentacles, adeptly pulling bits of meat off the line with zero repercussions.

"That was your brilliant plan? Octopussing without a hook?" Ashley sighs and looks at Nixie, "Looks like we're up, alright, Nixie, you're the bait, you need to stay alive long enough to allow us to attack the thing directly." She addresses the group. Listen up, this whole weak arrow attack and ranged crap with cantrips isn't going to work, we have one chance. Alice, once Moby-Dickapus is held and beached, get in there and grapple it like Brutus said, attack with everything you got, all the hits you can with your hand harming thing. Cat, big attacks, swing hard, extra damage you know what to do. Yulya, FFS, I've filled your focus while we've been waiting, if it looks dire and everyone's attacked but it's still kicking, give it everything you got on that thing, something that won't get us grapplers. Now let's do this! Ashley ties one end of the rope around Nixie as a harness and the other end to a sturdy pillar to anchor her.

"This'll hurt me more than it does you."

"Go on, don't attack, parry and grip onto anything that touches you with your life, death grip even."

[Round A+3 continued]

Heartlessly, Ashley sends Nixie to her doom. The panther walks to the edge of the pond and just as expected, four tentacles reach out from the water, gripping her tightly as she grips back.

Once She's attacked, Ashley directs the rest of her minions to attack with everything they have, flanking the beast and Rallies them with Rally Attack, then strips off her underwear and transforms, attacking as well with Action Surge.

[The following two occur simultaneously.]

[Octopus HIT vs AC 12 1d20+12,+8,+4,+0=(22,CM,23,2)][GRAPPLE vs DC18 1d20+2 = (6,21)][DMG (2d8+9)x2=32 Bludgeoning]

[Nixie Grapple-Bite vs AC 17 vs DC13 1d20+6=8][BITE[A] vs AC17 1d20+5+1d4=(23,CR)][CON vs DC15 1d20+4=21][DMG (1d6+3)x2=8]

Nixie has managed to grapple the Octopus, and her subsequent bite has wounded the octopus in its mantle. Causing one level of exhaustion and 8 damage. The Octopus has managed two hits and a grapple on Nixie, dealing 32 damage and taking 16 damage sympathetically.

Miraculously, Nixie is still alive with 1HP! Holding the Octopus in place for this turn.

[Olga, Helga, HIT and Ashley Panther Pounce[A] vs AC17 1d20+4+1d4, +4+1d4, +5+1d4=((17,CM),(18,25))((12,CR),(20,14))((18,17),(23,20)), AP GRAPPLE vs DC13[A] 1d20+6=(24,22),(CR,11), Ashley's Bite on second attempt of grapple HIT 1d20+5+1d4=(CR,24)][CON vs DC15 1d20+4=(9,14,9,23,20,7,23)][DMG 1d4+3+1d4+3+(1d4+3)x2+1d4+2+2d4+3+2d4+5+(2d4+3)x2=6+7+12+4+6+13+16=64]

The flurry of attacks leaves The octopus in sad shape, Exhausted 2, wounded in the mantle again, and otherwise wounded severely, it's fair to say Ashley's plan of Shock and Awe has succeeded brilliantly on her part, but now it's up to you all to finish the job as she requested, but you may do as you wish.

[Beatrice Grapple-Sting[A] vs DC12 1d20+6=(25,9) Grappled, Rally attack 1d20+4=(25,7)(24,10)][DMG 1d4+1d4 Poison damage=4]

Even Beatrice is successful. With both Ashley Panther and Nixie holding on tight and the rope securing Nixie, the Octopus will have a hard time disengaging. It's been baited and caught.

[In the midst of this intense attack, Yulya gets a vision, she foresees Ashley being awarded with her hero title for her bravery and selflessness after this and other similar brave if not foolhardy actions.]

[Make your moves, spots adjacent to the octopus are available for melee actions, remember, Cat needs to re-enrage, Guidance has expired, Bless is still in effect. As with Ashley, you may spend a turn preparing for this attack, those turns may not include bestowing more than one set of temporary HP and only one spell may be cast, only the second turn can include attacks]

Cat feels slightly disheartened the baiting plan failed and 10lbs of meat have been lost. But there' the prospect of octopus in return!
Nyaa sometimes you win sometimes you lose Nya!

With pity, Cat helps to tie Nixie to the rope and properly fasten it to a pillar. Laying in wait, Cat enters rage and charges as soon as the octopus grabs Nixie and is grappled. She bestows temporary HP on Alice and moves N of the monster. In a flanking position, she attacks the octopus with her Greatsword using HEAVY.
If the octopus is down, Cat will retreat 30ft East again.

Considering Alice knows nothing about giant snakes, let alone cephalopods, the outcome was to be expected - but probably also the result of deafness-related miscommunication with Cat.

Not even Alice would have used Nixie as living bait, but she's glad she herself isnt' tied to that rope. Surprised that Nixie survived the octopus attack and seeing it grappled, Alice charges in and jumps on top of the octopus. Having faith Ashley and her summon's grapple, Alice attacks with her spear 2 handed and expends 2 Ki point for Flurry of blows + Hand of Harm dealing 2 unarmed strikes+necrotic damage. If the octopus is killed, Alice will also retreat East before falling into the water (and victim to the snake).

Uh yes, thank you! I hope this works. Be careful!

Yulya nervously awaits the outcome of the battle staring at her focus and worried about another mishap. If the octopus is still up and kickin after Alice and Cat attack Yulya casts a Distant INFLICT WOUNDS boosted to lv2 and amplified with the goblin staff at the octopus. If they manage to take it down Yulya readies the spell and casts it at the snake as soon as it shows up.
