Another car added to the fleet, so now I have a spare car.

If you've followed Bear lore, you know that I've been gifted more cars than I ever bought. In my life I've purchased 3, one that was DOA and I only had it 3 months my second was fun sports car that I took good care of but someone totaled it when it was parked, the last I still own, my truck, and I've been gifted 5. The car I use as my daily driver was a gift from a woman in my neighborhood because she "didn't need it anymore," after seeing me driving around a totaled car that still ran but it was about to die. It's a good car, 4-door sedan, very mid, low miles, never had a problem with it. Two volvos, yes, I owned volvos.

Most uncomfortable, slow, heavy dog of a car, dang reliable though. Then there was that german car and it was nice, a gift, but I sold it because it's hella expensive even for parts, even for me to do the work, and lo and behold, another German car from the woman down the street I call Grandma because she's the closest I have to one. Her husband's old car, newer than mine, less miles, well cared for but smells like Depends and it's so dirty, just grimey, every nook and cranny is crammed with old man skin and hair, it's disgusting. But I used to be a detailer, so np. It also needs work because it's a German car. Not as flashy as the other one, but it is AWD with traction control so not bad. As a spare car... ok we'll see. The idle is bad and she took it in for that and they said it's normal, it's not, but I know zero about this car, looks like a 4-banger with a turbo, don't even know if it's slow or fast, I just limped to my side of the street and parked it. It needs a full cleaning and the hood strut is bad, so a new one of those before I even start.

Anyway, yay? I'm not the kind of Bear who likes more responsibilities. I'll try to use it.

That's cool! At least that's a real car and not a rolling smartphone.
You'd run into so many bureaucratic problems and costs here that owning multiple cars you don't use is barely worth it - unless they're expensive and/or you're rich. Especially old cars are a nightmare with regulations. You could only use them as oldtimers I guess which comes with - who would have guessed - more bureaucratic nightmares. I think. I know nothing about cars.

Host never bought one either, we always had some old battered ones from family or friends of family we basically got for free as well. Not pretty but very functional. How much is car insurance in the US? I think it works very differently from Germany.

New Volvo has got to be trash, 80's-90's 240D best car for the money, very easy to work on.

I have 3 cars now, I've had more before and this is how it goes, if you have 1 car it costs something like $200 per month for "full coverage". If you have two, it's $120/mo for each so it's only like another $40 because you can only drive one car at a time. If you have 3, then it's going to be $80/mo roughly each. They also charge less if you drive less, they charge less if you have a good driving record all that. So my 6mo insurance was like $500 for 6mo. The registration is about $300 a year for something this age. It goes down every year as it ages. My old truck is $100/yr.

Other than that tires last 10 years, they can cost upwards of $200/tire, battery lasts 5, they are around $150, that's about it.

You don't want to know what it costs for my truck

This is the cheapest legitimate brand. (For 1)

I wouldn't dare get an off-brand tire.

Of course the rim is not included but you reuse those in case you're fully retard and don't know.

However I would probably get a slightly higher end for $250/tire, never heard of a rebate, ain't happening

but youre not gonna put those premium tires on the volvo right?

summer tires i bought for my hyundai l20 cost something like 80€ but that was some years ago. they were continental i chose them for wet braking performance. only thing that matters i dont wanna run over some kid bc shitty chink tires. theyre like 50€ but supposedly not all are bad. gotta look at official reviews. still wouldnt buy them just like i wouldnt buy tires for over 100€. ok i need 2 sets for summer and winter so it amounts to this. you cant use all season tires in the climate here. +30C and massive rain in summer -30C and lots of snow and ice in winter. but the country is flat as a pancake and highway speed limit is 110 kmh in winter so its not like i need tires for a sports or offroad car

yes, but actually no, the Volvos, both 240's one year apart, were back when I was in college. I put Michelin tires, I would guess they were $120-150 each at least at the time. They last a long time, don't skimp on tires dude.

Hmmmm... Continental and other lower cost brands I would never buy now. Yes, I can get Continental for $100 for the German car but I wouldn't. I did once when I had a sports car and no money and they were so bad I returned them. It's not about sport or off-road it's about emergency performance. You want the performance when you need it most and least suspect it. I can't afford to replace these cars or rather I don't want to buy someone else's problem and new cars are stupid expensive.

I'm still disappointed of all those AI videos. So lame. Just wait 'til I get my hand on this. Consequences will never be the same.

Worked on the "new" car, fixed a couple things, found a stupid air freshener, fucking bitch! Smelled a little better after cleaning and treating every surface and putting in 6 activated charcoal bags in various places. Slow, sadly, it's just a turbo 4, not much of a turbo if it even works, can't tell, there's no boost gage.

Will use, it's awd and traction control. Handles ok. Continental tires of course fucking cheap ass, need to change those out.

Was free its ok for free.
