btw before we run into another embarrassment about Yulyas immunity - what counts as beast and what not? i assume a monster is not a beast. so just regular animals?

The monster manual does label some creatures beasts.
"Mundane animals, giant versions of animals, and fantasy fauna. Generally defined aa natural parts of the fantasy ecology, lacking society, language, or significant intelligence."

I give Sherlock Dwarf the benefit of just having returned from the dead and being a dwarf in general, but he was a bit too eager to shift the blame away from the dwarves instead of telling about himself, or asking about us.
